Woman uses dad's pliers to get rid of hair extensions while salons are closed

Salons are closed, our hair is a mess. The temptation to grab the scissors, trimmers and box dye is real.

Some people have been pushed to extreme lengths to sort out their manes.

Sophie Flack, from Norwich, used her dad’s pliers to get her extensions out.

The 22-year-old opted for the DIY solution as she wanted to take out the blonde locks but was unable to do so professionally.

She appeared to have micro ring extensions, which are attached to the root of the hair and need to be replaced every three to four months.

Sophie’s hair had overgrown and she was desperate to take out the extensions.

Sharing a clip of the ‘frustrating’ experience on TikTok, Sophie used pliers to cut off the rings and pulled out the fake hair.

Never again 😩 miss it already #fyp #viral #viralvideo #foryou

After the ‘time-consuming’ task of taking out each strand, Sophie said: ”RIP my hair. I will now be wearing my hair up all the time.’

Some viewers said they had to take measures into their own hands and regretted the experience.

One person wrote: ‘I had to do the same, my poor arms. I now have about 10 strands of hair (feels like it anyway).’

Another said: ‘This happened to me as well. I cried for ages but my hair got thicker again within a few weeks, it’s just from all the dead hair coming out’.

Valerie Maine from Live True London doesn’t recommend trying this particular technique at home.

She tells Metro.co.uk: ‘In general, we do not recommend that clients try to remove their own extensions at home and this should be left to a specially trained professional in the salon.

‘Hair extension removal is a delicate process which requires specialised equipment to remove the extensions safely and without damaging the hair.

‘Incorrect removal can lead to hair snapping, being damaged or ripped out at the roots.

‘For certain types of extensions, like tapes, removal is easier and can be done by a client at home if they purchase the correct materials and under the guidance of a hair extensions specialist.

‘However, this is a difficult and time consuming process and, if done incorrectly, can lead to a client damaging their own hair.

‘When it comes to hair extensions, it is always best to leave the removal to a professional.’
