Nadia Sawalha has addressed her relationship with her spouse Mark Adderley, as the TV personality admitted their marriage has been “tough”. The Loose Women panellist tied the knot with her second husband in 2002.

The 56-year-old celebrated her 19th wedding anniversary yesterday, as she took to Instagram to reveal the “truth” about their marriage, saying they have been through many ups and downs.

The British actress explained that she is surprised they lasted for more than a few months as she made a candid admission.

Nadia revealed that the couple would often lie beside each other on the road to see what would happen.

In view of her 395,000 followers, the ITV star gave an insight into the couple’s personal battles.

Nadia began: “Nineteen years married today.

“We almost didn’t make it. Too often when people post about their relationships on here it can all be a bit hearts and flowers! And that can be so damn intimidating and depressing for those that might be struggling with their own relationship.

“So here’s the truth. Mark and I were always going to be together. I think we knew that the minute we met. We kind of crashed into each other really.”

The Loose Women panellist explained at the start of their marriage the pair were equally unhappy.

“At the time we were both so unhappy for very different reasons,” she commented.

“We were self-medicating our feelings with bottles of booze and crazy behaviours.”

Nadia added: “It’s a miracle we didn’t both snuff it in those first few months (we used to lie in the road blind drunk to ‘see what would happen ‘FFS’).”(sic)

The former EastEnders actress shared that she and Mark were “f***ing miserable” during the first few years.

She continued: “Eventually after a whole heap of hell we came to the realisation that we were going have to get on with the graft of making it work because actually we loved each other and would have been as miserable as sin if we’d broken up.

“I don’t care what anyone says, a lasting relationship takes conscious effort…”

The mum-of-two went on to explain that the pair went through a lot to keep their relationship alive, including going through couple counselling.

Nadia said: “Staying when we’ve wanted to leave, listening when we’ve not wanted to, compromising when we’d rather have died!

“And here we are 19 years on, off the back of a very challenging, frightening few weeks. And I love Mark more than I ever have.”

The Loose Women panellist described their marriage as a “beautiful disaster” but admitted she wouldn’t change anything about it.

Nadia gushed: “My gorgeous man. A fabulous father to our beautiful girls.

“The most supportive loving husband. So smart, talented and bonkers.”

She concluded: “My life would have been a car crash without you. Everyone thinks I saved you but we saved each other my darling. Love you till the day I die. Thank you for being exactly the way you are. I wouldn’t change a thing… except the farting… maybe.”

Nadia accompanied the anniversary post with a series of photos of the couple over the years.
