Chris Hemsworth taking break from acting after Alzheimers health warning

Chris Hemsworth has revealed he’s taking a break from acting after being warned about his future health.

The Thor star was working on new his Disney+ docuseries Limitless when he discovered that he has an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease due to his genetics.

The actor underwent a series of tests for the show, which is about pushing back against the natural decline that comes with getting older, and he says the discovery was his “biggest fear”.

Chris’s genes include two copies of the gene APOE4, one from his mother, the other from his father, which studies have linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s.

The 39 year old has been told by medical experts that he is between “eight and 10 times” likelier to develop condition than the general population.

The star, whose grandfather has Alzheimer’s, revealed the news in a new interview with Vanity Fair and said it is unsettling.

“There was an intensity to navigating it,” he said. “Most of us, we like to avoid speaking about death in the hope that we'll somehow avoid it.

"We all have this belief that we'll figure it out. Then to all of a sudden be told some big indicators are actually pointing to this as the route which is going to happen, the reality of it sinks in. Your own mortality.”

The Marvel star is now taking “preventative steps” to starve off the development of the disease and said the news "really triggered something in me to want to take some time off".

Chris also revealed he was told the news when he was with his parents Leonie and Craig.

“I hung up the phone and my parents were there, at the time,” he explained. “They were like: ‘What was that about?’ And I told them, and then they had a bunch of questions.

"I had a bunch of questions, but no one answered them. I wish I'd had a more intense follow-up with it because I didn't really know what to think. I was like, “Am I supposed to be worried? Is this concerning?”

He added that it has become a “self deprecating sort of joke” with his fellow actor brothers, Luke and Liam Hemsworth.

The Australian tar will be taking a break from acting after finishing the press tour for Limitless and his other contracted work.

He will be spending time at his home in Byron Bay with his wife Elsa Pataky and their three children, India, 10, and eight year old twins Sasha and Tristan.
