Strictly Come Dancing star Dan Walker has taken to Twitter to respond to judge Motsi Mabuse, after she confirmed her absence from this week’s show. The South African dance star told how she is following UK guidelines after coming into “close contact” with someone who tested positive for Covid and will not be able to return to the UK from her home in Germany until after November 30 when she has finished self-isolating.

In view of his 731,000 followers, Dan responded to Motsi’s news by wishing her well.

The BBC star penned: “Sorry to hear this Motsi.

“Take care of yourself and hopefully see you soon.”

Replying to Dan’s well-wishes, the judge left a row of three heart emojis.

Earlier today, Motsi broke the news that she won’t be able to make it for this weekend’s live show.

In a statement on Twitter, Motsi broke the news to her 63,900 followers.

She wrote: “I am gutted to say I will have to miss this weekend on Strictly…

“Yesterday, I was contacted by NHS Test and Trace as being in close contact with someone on Sunday 21st Nov who has since tested positive.

“Being double vaccinated and booster as I am, would normally mean exemption from isolation under the ‘close contact’ rules, but unfortunately German EU vaccines are not recognised and neither is my booster in this instance – so I must follow UK Government Guidance and can only return after 30 November 2021 to UK.

She went on: “Our health is the most important thing and luckily I have been tested multiple times this week and am negative.

“I am healthy, I am with my family that’s what matters!

“I wish everyone good luck, sending you my love keep dancing.

“Until then, lots of love and stay safe xx,” she signed off.

In lieu of the announcement, performer Cynthia Erivo was announced as a guest judge once again.

The star made her Strictly debut on last week’s show during Craig Revel Horwood’s absence after he tested positive for Covid.

Addressing the news, a Strictly spokesperson said: “We can confirm Motsi Mabuse will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.

“We are delighted that Cynthia Erivo will be joining us as a guest judge again, joining Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Head Judge, Shirley Ballas on the judging panel.

“We look forward to having Motsi back with us next weekend.”

However, some social media users saw Motsi’s absence as a disadvantage for Dan and Nadiya.

Malcolm Jacobus penned: “The judge who only gave you 7 last week, is sitting in again!”

Stiffordblue added: “Just unfortunately you will not see Motsi again as Craig is back and he will slaughter your dance tomorrow and as your rumba is the death dance for make celebrities.”(sic)

Tomorrow night sees Dan and his professional partner Nadia Bychkova perform the Rumba to Desperado by Eagles.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow at 6.55pm on BBC One.
