Gemma Atkinson blasts ‘lowest of the low’ thieves who stole dog ‘Makes me so angry!’

Gemma Atkinson discusses a stolen dog being returned

The 36-year-old actress is best known for her roles on-screen as Carly Hope in Emmerdale and Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks – but she keeps fans updated with life off-screen via social media.

Dog lover Gemma has two Spaniels of her own with her partner and Strictly Come Dancing star, Gorka Marquez, 30.

Addressing her 1.6million followers on Saturday, she said: “Just had some lovely messages that Flora the golden Cocker Spaniel stolen from her elderly owner has been found and they have been reunited – so that is great news.

“She is safe and sound where she belongs.”

In a stern message to the thieves, Gemma, who also presents Hits Radio Network at drivetime, added: “And to the people that take pets: I hope you’re found, I hope you’re found, and I hope you’re dealt with accordingly.”

Gemma followed up with a second written post, describing how she had to “stop herself” from talking more on the incident as its a topic which makes her very angry.

She wrote: “Had to stop myself then as you know how I get with animal cruelty…

“Makes me so angry! Lowest of the low. Anyway, there’s so many more good people in the world and that’s what matters, power in numbers!”

Gemma and Gorka’s two dogs, Ollie and Norman, regularly feature on the star’s Instagram, including earlier on Saturday.

Gorka played with Norman in the snow in the heartwarming clip to her Instagram Story.

It’s not the first time she has posted about stolen dogs, posting to her fans with reward offers following similar reports in 2019. Gemma also thanked fans after a pooch was located in 2017.

She has previously revealed Norman is named after her late grandfather, telling K9 magazine in 2017: “Well, Ollie’s name we just liked and thought he looked like an Ollie but Norman was actually named after my grandad who was called Norman too.

“He loved dogs but passed away before we got Norm so I wanted to name him after my grandad so there’s a little memoir for him.”

Gemma has a one-year-old daughter, Mia, with Gorka. She has also opened up on how she has been shamed for having dogs around her.

She told HELLO!: “I’ve had people message me saying she shouldn’t be around them, she’s too young, you can’t trust them.

“I know Norman and Ollie’s character 100 per cent, but I would never leave Mia own her own with them, ever.

“It’s a responsibility as a parent to a human and a parent to a dog.

“Situations can happen, a dog can react if it’s feeling threatened or frightened the same as a human would.”

She added: “We’ve taught her never to go around the back end of them, she always has to approach the front.

“I’m now at that stage where I’m having to explain to her that not all dogs are like Norman and Ollie, when she sees them out walking she wants to go play with them!”
