Pete and Sophie Sandiford have become firm fan favourites since joining Gogglebox in 2017 with their off-the-cuff comments and easy-flowing one-liners. However, the pair have revealed that being on national television isn’t quite enough to pay the bills as they have both kept their ordinary day jobs.

As the hit reality show gears up to head into its second decade, Channel 4 revealed a bit about their all-star cast’s life away from the sofas.

It was revealed that Pete used to work in insurance and is currently the boss of a building company.

Additionally, the Gogglebox star got married during the pandemic, tying the knot with Paige Yeomans in mid-2021 and they share one-year-old Jimmy.

While Pete has managed to keep his relationship out of the public eye, some surprises have slipped out during his Gogglebox episodes.

In February 2021, Sophie accidentally revealed that Pete had popped the question, asking on the show whether he “felt any different” after getting engaged.

Some other announcements, however, have been a bit more purposeful.

In a December episode, Pete excitedly revealed that he and Paige were expecting baby number two, and received an outpouring of support on social media.

While Sophie, on the other hand, is reportedly single, she used to work at Debenhams before the high street store fell into administration in 2019.

She is currently a florist and the owner of the house the pair film their hilarious commentary in.

However, the home actually used to belong to Pete.

Speaking to Heat Magazine, Pete explained that he had lived in the house for years, but when he split with his girlfriend it suddenly contained some unpleasant and disheartening memories.

He shared: “[I] thought, ‘I don’t really want to live here any more’.

“Then Soph moved in on the sly, didn’t you?”

His sister agreed, adding: “I took over the whole house.”

Sophie eventually bought the house from her brother, and Pete in turn found his own home with Paige.

Gogglebox was not Pete and Sophie’s first voyage into television as, unlike some of the other families on the show, they were scouted because of their acting work.

A year before joining the show, the Blackpool siblings and the rest of their family, including their dog Elvis, were cast in a TalkTalk advert.

The advert for the This Stuff Matters campaign featured multiple unmanned cameras capturing the family’s daily lives.

The ad shared a few quick moments of family love, pranks, heartfelt embraces and sibling rivalry.

The Livepool Echo reported that Pete and Sophie were scouted for Gogglebox thanks to this short ad.

The siblings also have a little-known family connection to the comedy world.

Paul Chuckle, one half of the infamous Chuckle Brothers duo, revealed on Twitter in 2018 that he is Pete and Sophie’s great-uncle.
