Harley Quinn Smith: Jay and Silent Bob universe hard for non-stoners to understand

All parents know exactly how to embarrass their children, and Kevin Smith is no exception.

In the upcoming “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” Harley Quinn Smith — who plays Jay’s daughter Milly — has to say several raunchy things in front of her real-life father.

“There were a ton of awkward moments that my dad wrote into the script, which I kind of feel like he did on purpose to make me have to say them,” the 20-year-old actress told Page Six on Monday, adding the most uncomfortable scene from the film included Chris Hemsworth. “I kind of asked not to do it at first because I was like, ‘I don’t think I can say this in front of you.’”

Harley, who’s been appearing in her father’s films for years, made her debut at just 1-year-old in “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” as baby Silent Bob. Just like Harley did 18 years earlier, Mewes’ 4-year-old daughter Logan Lee will make her debut in the reboot.

“I don’t know if she has any interest in acting at all,” Harley told us. “I think it might be the same thing that my dad made me do, which was like be in the movies against my own will. I think it might be a repeat of one of those situations, but if she were to want to become an actress, she would for sure be supported by all of us.”

In 2014, Harley had a change of tune.

“I had zero intentions of acting until I was in my dad’s movie ‘Tusk,’” she explained. “I was like, ‘Oh, no wait, I could totally be an actor, this is really f–king fun.’”

For the new Jay and Silent Bob film, which hits theaters on Oct. 15 and 17 via Fathom Events, Harley realized she would need to start actually watching her father’s films.

“I didn’t watch any of his films for a really long time and then one day he got really insulted that I wasn’t watching his movies and made me watch them,” she said, laughing. She began with “Mallrats,” then “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” and ended up watching “Clerks” for the first time at a comic convention in 2018 with a room full of fans.

Kevin, 49, pulled out all the stops for the latest reboot. Stars including Chris Hemsworth, Joe Manganiello, Val Kilmer, Fred Armisen and Craig Robinson pop up randomly, as well as stars reprising past characters like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Shannon Elizabeth and Joey Lauren Adams.

“That’s also just f–king bonkers. Apparently [Hemsworth] is a fan of my dad’s, which was a shock of a lifetime for my dad and I,” Harley said. “I really don’t know how it came about. I saw it in the script at first and I was like, ‘So, who’s going to play Chris Hemsworth?’ My dad goes, ‘No, it’s actually Chris Hemsworth’ and I was like, ‘Haha, shut the hell up. What do you mean?’ … I still don’t understand.”

As for the future of Harley’s character Milly, she has no idea whether fans will be seeing her again in the Jay and Silent Bob universe.

“I would be happy to bring her back because I love her a lot, but my dad is like … the more years he’s a stoner, the weirder stuff he does,” she said, explaining there are lots of things that make no sense in this movie including actors from past movies playing new characters despite other actors from the same past films reprising their roles. “It’s very, very meta and hard for a non-stoner to understand, I feel. I don’t know if my dad would choose to bring Milly back or if he would bring her back in a weird stoner-y way.”
