Inside Oritse Williams’ charred Croydon mansion after huge fire
Oritse Williams’ sprawling Croydon mansion is almost literally a shell of its former self, after a huge fire ravaged through the property this week.
Just days after the former JLS singer was found not guilty of rape, a large fire broke out at his property on Tuesday afternoon prompting around 70 firefighters to tackle the blaze.
The London Fire Brigade confirmed that no one was hurt in the incident while the Metropolitan Police said they were treating the incident as ‘suspicious’, although no arrests have been made.
Photos of the charred property show the roof almost caved in, the swimming pool a murky shade of green and debris inside the building.
Oritse bought the six-bedroom detached mansion in 2013 with his then-girlfriend AJ Azari for £3 million.
However, the 32-year-old singer put the property back on the market in January at a £1.25 million loss.
The three-storey home, which used to belong to comedian Ronnie Corbett, boasts a large kitchen, swimming pool, spacious living area with its own indoor balcony, a fireplace, and also a hot tub in the master bedroom.
It was claimed that Oritse had moved out of the property after he was arrested and charged with raping one woman in December 2016, and it had since fallen into disrepair.
The huge blaze is said to have spread throughout the first and second floors of the property.
Confirming the fire, the Metropolitan Police told Metro.co.uk in a statement: ‘Police were called at 16:39hrs on Tuesday, 4 June following reports of a fire at a residential address in Spout Hill, Croydon.
‘Officers attended with London Fire Brigade. There were no reported injuries. There have been no arrests.
‘At this stage, the incident is being treated as suspicious. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
‘Enquiries continue, led by the South Area Command Unit CID.’
Last week, Oritse was cleared of raping a 20-year-old woman in a Wolverhampton hotel room in 2016.
The Beat Again singer had stood trial alongside his friend and tour manager, Jamien Nagadhana, and was accused of behaving like a ‘sexual predator’ towards the woman and her friends.
Oritse claimed he had consensual sex with the woman after his nightclub appearance and was being ‘taken advantage of’ because of his fame.
However, a jury found Oritse not guilty in less than two hours.
