Jenny Ryan, otherwise known as The Vixen, made her show debut on The Chase in 2015. The ITV favourite opened up about securing her role on the quiz programme but admitted it had been an overwhelming experience.

The 39-year-old revealed she became overwhelmed after not hearing back from The Chase after applying to be a quizzer on the show.

The red-haired star explained it took six weeks to hear back from the show producers.

Jenny admitted upon hearing the good news she consequently snubbed the BBC programme Pointless.

“I’d actually developed a nervous twitch in my eye waiting for that call,” she explained.

“They said they’d let me know in a week and it ended up being six, so when they told me I burst into tears.”

She added: “Then I called my mum hysterical so she assumed I hadn’t got it.”

But to her family’s delight, the quizmaster explained she got the job.

The TV star went on: “As for my stepdad, we said we’d go on Pointless together, so he just threw that application form in the bin when he found out.

“They were all thrilled for me.”

Jenny has been a firm fixture on The Chase for the past six years alongside her co-stars Anne Hegerty, Shaun Wallace, Mark Labbett, Paul Sinha and Darragh Ennis.

Meanwhile, the quizzing champion revealed another “childhood dream had come true” for The Chase star.

The Bolton-born Chaser took to Twitter and shared her delight at her latest new role.
