Kate Middleton needs a Diana moment to win over fans on US tour, says expert

Former Vanity Fair Editor Tina Brown, who founded The Daily Beast, has shared what she thinks it will take for Kate Middleton and Prince William to win over the American public during their upcoming visit.

The new Prince and Princess of Wales, who recently visited a Ukrainian community centre, are set to head across the pond in December, when they’ll head to Boston to attend the second ever Earthshot prize awards ceremony.

The Earthshot prize will be awarded to five winners each year for their contributions to environmentalism.

It’s speculated that, after heading to Boston, Kate and William may embark on a few more public engagements in the United States – but the details are yet to be revealed to the public and it’s been reported that aides want to classify it as a “trip, not a tour”.

Tina, however, told The Sunday Times that she thinks it could be a great opportunity for the pair to improve their image and that of the royal family in the states.

She said: “While Meghan and Harry have captured the tabloid imagination there, interest in William and Kate is low boil. I would have liked to see them hit more cities than Boston, where sizzle factor is quiescent to say the least.”

Tina explained that she’d like to see Kate and William make more effort with the Americans and even offered a suggestion for Kate: “ I would recommend a White House dinner, with Kate hitting the dance floor with Bradley Cooper, as Diana did with Travolta, preferably in the dress Kate wore to the James Bond opening.”

However, it doesn’t look like that’s in the couple’s plans for the trip, as it’s been suggested that they want their work moving forward to focus primarily on philanthropy.

Kate and William are slowly getting back to their normal workload after the death of Queen Elizabeth II and were awarded their new titles of the Prince and Princess of Wales after William’s father, King Charles III ascended to the throne.

Prince William is now the second in line to the throne and will succeed his father as King.

Kate and William’s trip to the United States will be their first official overseas visit since the Queen’s death.

William’s brother, Prince Harry, who recently released a memoir, now lives primarily in California with his actress wife Meghan Markle but flew back to support the family after the death of his grandmother.

Elizabeth II’s death also meant that Harry’s two kids, Archie and Lilibet, became Prince and Princess – like their cousins George, Charlotte and Louis.
