Meghan Markle is said to “regret” supporting Prince Harry ’s explosive memoir, Spare, after the couple’s popularity has wavered recently, according to a royal source.

The raven-haired beauty and one time actress, 41, is said to be frustrated following the backlash from the controversial memoir, which detailed a string of claims about the royal family, and Harry’s, 38, life in the Firm. The star is said to wish she’d been more involved in the writing process.

Ahead of the book’s release, there were reports Meghan had concerns and reservations, particularly after Harry’s damning claims about Queen Camilla, as well as alleged fights with older brother Prince William, 41, and much more.

An insider told Heat Magazine Meghan regrets not advising her husband against some of the more scandalous elements of the memoir. They said: “Meghan can now see that, whether it’s fair or not, they are being viewed as these professional whiners and it’s not as simple as her distancing herself, because she has to be seen as fully supportive of Harry.”

They continued: “She’s now regretting that she wasn’t more hands-on or involved when he was putting his book together. This theory that she micromanaged what he wrote or had any say in the manuscript is totally wrong – it was Harry’s book and she let him get on with it.”

The source said the “same went for his interviews and promo tours” which was “evidenced by the fact she let him do those by himself and made a point not to interfere.”

Meghan is rumoured to be taking a "step away" from the Sussex brand and will instead focus on more projects of her own. Despite friends of the couple saying they’re “remaining united”, the source added to Heat Magazine that Meghan is realising their careers are “on different paths”.

They added: “Meghan doesn't think it’s impossible – she's too self-assured and ambitious for that – but it's a mess she could well do without, and ultimately one she feels stems from Harry's decision to go after the family in the way he did.”

Meghan's podcast Archetypes was axed from Spotify after just one season. Spotify, along with Meghan and Harry's audio production company Archewell Audio, released a joint statement confirming the news last month, which said they had "mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together."

Meghan and Harry signed a reported $20million deal with the streaming giant, but a source has claimed the couple "did not did not meet the productivity benchmark required to receive the full payout," according to the Wall Street Journal.

Meghan's Spotify podcast looked at the "labels that try to hold women back," and the Duchess of Sussex made sure to rope in some big celebrity names, including Mariah Carey, Paris Hilton and Serena Williams, as guest stars.
