Stranger Things Noah Schnapp comes out as gay in joyous TikTok video

Stranger Things' Noah Schnapp has come out as gay, as he shared a playful TikTok video with his 31.1million followers after telling his family.

The 18 year old posted a selfie video to TikTok, in which he donned a grey hoodie whilst laying on a pillow, and could be seen lip-synching to a voice that said: "You know what it never was? That serious. It was never that serious, and quite frankly, will never be that serious."

Above the video, Noah wrote: "When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was, 'We know.'"

He also included in the caption: "I guess I'm more similar to will than I thought."

Noah plays Will Byers on Stranger Things and there has often been speculation as to whether the character is gay, due to his affection for Mike Wheeler, and now it seems that Noah has proven fans right.

He's previously spoken about his character's sexuality, describing it as a "slow arc" to be revealed.

Speaking to Variety, the star said: "Obviously, it was hinted at in Season 1: "It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, is it just him growing up slower than his friends? Now that he's gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing.

"Now it's 100 per cent clear that he is gay and he does love Mike. But before, it was a slow arc."

Speaking about the development of the relationship between Will and Mike, Noah said: "I think for Season 4, it was just me playing this character who loves his best friend but struggles with knowing if he’ll be accepted or not, and feeling like a mistake and like he doesn’t belong.

"Will has always felt like that. All his friends, they all have girlfriends and they all fit into their different clubs. Will has never really found anywhere to fit in. I think that’s why so many people come up to me and tell me that they love Will and they resonate with him so much, because it’s such a real character."

Noah was thrust into the spotlight when Stranger Things became a massive hit. It sees a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits, and is one of Netflix's most-watched shows.

Noah stars alongside Millie Bobby Brown in the show, and they're the bestest of friends outside of it, having effectively grown up together since being on set.

The show launched in 2016, when they were just young teenagers, working alongside the likes of Winona Ryder and Matthew Modine.
