Why Fans Are Stunned By Billie Eilish’s Grammys Win

For a second year in a row, Billie Eilish took home one of the Grammys’ biggest awards — Record of the Year (via Deadline). The 19-year-old singer-songwriter was just as shocked as some viewers about the win, and even dedicated her award to who she thought should have won, Megan Thee Stallion. Despite losing out on the Record of the Year award, Megan Thee Stallion had a pretty successful night. The rapper took home Best New Artist, along with Rap Song and Rap Performance of the Year for her “Savage (Remix)” with Beyoncé (via Billboard).

At one point, she even accepted an award with Beyoncé which was one of the cutest moments of the entire awards show (via Glamour). So, Megan Thee Stallion definitely had a good night, but Billie Eilish believed her night should have ended with the Record of the Year award as well. When giving her acceptance speech, Eilish said to Megan Thee Stallion, “You deserve this. You had a year that I think is un-toppable. You are a queen — I want to cry thinking about how much I love you…” (via Pitchfork). That shoutout had some fans talking on Twitter.

Billie Eilish dedicated her Grammy to Megan Thee Stallion, and Twitter was here for it

As one Twitter user said, Gen Z is “not for the bulls**t,” referring to Billie Eilish saying that Megan Thee Stallion should have won the award. Artists being snubbed of awards they deserve is nothing new for the Grammys. In fact, one artist was noticeably absent from the awards show despite having a stellar year that culminated in an epic Super Bowl performance — The Weeknd. The “Blinding Lights” singer received zero Grammy nominations, which caused him to say that he “will no longer allow [his] label to submit [his] music to the Grammys” (via The New York Times).

Even Eilish dedicating her award to a fellow nominee is nothing new. As one Twitter user pointed out, Eilish’s speech was very reminiscent of when Adele dedicated her “album of the year award to Beyoncé” in 2017. Both instances felt very much like a Mean Girls moment, where Cady broke off pieces of her Spring Fling queen crown to give to everyone else. If only there was a way to share Grammy awards. Then, everyone could be a winner.
