I worked at Goodwill – staff DON'T get first dibs on fancy items, but shoppers need to be quick to beat them to it

WORKING at any retail store will come with its perks like, for instance, getting first pick of trendy new items before they hit the racks.

Well, a prior Goodwill employee who goes by Morgan Hoppe claimed that this is not the case at the thrift chain.

"So as a Goodwill employee, every time I tell someone that, their first reaction is 'oh my god so you get first dibs right?'" Hoppe began in a video.

"No. Do I get to see everything before it goes on the floor? Yes."

And, despite being aware of what items are coming into the store, Hoppe said that it doesn't give employees an advantage when it comes to purchasing items.

In fact, there are strict rules in place to prevent that from happening.

I worked at Goodwill – why you can never find decent bargains in store anymore

For instance, employees cannot purchase any items while on the clock.

There are also time restrictions, as an item has to be on the floor for at least 30 minutes so that it gives the customers an opportunity to buy it first.

Employees of the chain also cannot hide any items or call someone to come and purchase an item for them.

"That is very much against our policy, and if you get caught doing any of those things, you will be fired," Hoppe stressed.

"We do also get a 20 percent off discount, which I think is pretty nice considering that it's a thrift store.

"But yeah, just because we work there and we see the items, that does not mean we get first dibs.

"If anything it kind of sucks because nine out of 10 times the item we want is always sold."

People flocked to the comments with their own Goodwill staff experiences.

"I always hated ringing [up] the item I wanted to purchase when I got off," one wrote.

"Lmao, we can’t even buy anything at our store any day any time," another spectator shared.
