I'm an interior designer – the easy way to make your home look WAY more expensive on a budget & mistakes that cheapen it

AFTER spending almost two years locked inside our homes, it's no wonder we want to redecorate our space for a fresh new start.

Well, you can put down your credit card, because the mother-daughter duo behind the online interior design courses, Clairrow, has revealed how to upgrade your home for cheap.

Speaking directly with The US Sun, mom Catherine and daughter Alexandra talked about what can make or break your space.

The design team, who has over 30 years of experience in high-end, residential interior design, explained that elevating the look of your home can be as simple as adding a few throw pillows.

"Add throw pillows to a sofa or lounge chair to create a more polished, designed look," Catherine recommended.

"You can find tons of options in a variety of budgets and styles. Throw pillows allow you to add more pattern and texture to your space in a low-risk way, making them easy to switch out when you want a refresh, too."

But not any pillow will do, make sure that whatever size you get, you have a stuffer that matches.

"You don’t want your luxurious upgrade to look saggy and sad," she explained.

"We always suggest buying a stuffer that’s two inches larger than the cover, so the pillow looks luxurious and really substantial on the sofa or chair."

Additionally, you can create the same effect with rugs, but you have to make sure it's the right size.

A rug that's too small can actually make your home look cheap, per the experts.

"When a rug is too small for a space, it instantly makes the room look off," Alexandra revealed.

"Floating furniture is unbalanced! Your rug should extend far enough that all furniture pieces in a given zone sit on the rug.

"If you can’t make that happen, at least aim for the front legs of your furniture — your sofa, lounge chair, or similar — to rest on the rug."

The same applies to curtains and drapes that are too short for the window they're on.

"The fabric of floor-length window treatment should just kiss the floor," she explained.

"When the curtain ends a foot or two above the floor, it looks like flood pants and can instantly discredit a room’s beautiful design."
