Sami Miro is a Vintage is a Love Letter to the ’90s

Sami Miro launched her vintage collection in 2016, a move that feels as organic as any fashion label could given that her look is decidedly ’90s inspired always—even when she’s front row at Louis Vuitton. That ladies and gentlemen is called some A+ branding. The collection of cool separates and dresses has always been available direct to consumer, but she recently launched on FWRD.com for her first time out with a retailer. Below Miro opens up about her love of vintage, her ultimate Sami Miro vintage dream girl (hint: a certain former First Lady) and of course sustainability. Read on and shop the collection below.

Why did you want to start your vintage brand?

I have been a vintage lover since my early teens. As a young, shy woman, knowing that I was wearing one of kind clothing, gave me the confidence to explore my creative eye. But it wasn’t until over a decade later, after I received a master’s degree in Global Entrepreneurship, that my passion as a 13-year-old would turn into my livelihood. Founding SMV was the perfect opportunity for me to debut my first design creations and to also put my business acumen to the test.

Why was now a good time to partner with an ecomm site?


Sami Miro Vintage combines luxury and sustainability. FWRD is my go-to for luxury fashion so it feels like a dream to be launching with them and to be a sustainable brand on the website.

Why is sustainability important to you?


I was born and raised in San Francisco and respecting the planet was a part of my upbringing. Sustainability became a huge part of the brand identity because, to me, there is no other way. The fashion industry’s global supply chain is one of the most harmful to our planet right next to the airline industry. It’s wasteful, it’s polluting and it’s killing our beautiful planet. I would never add to the problem so I found a way to create exactly what I want, while still being able to protect Mother Earth.

What was the inspiration for these designs?


My design process starts with my one of a kind reworked vintage. After I have altered the shape, added new fabric fabrics, and reimagined the overall look, I take my favorite pieces and I apply them to my collections. My one of ones have only been available to a very select number of people, so incorporating them into my collections has given my customers a way to obtain similar, sought after looks.

For this particular collection I really honed in on what my customer wants to wear on a day-to-basis, however, I couldn’t design a basic piece without a twist even if I tried. I like to call them, “striking staples.” They are staples on paper but there is a tremendous amount of work that goes into each design. The open seam lines, the Victorian-inspired cuffs, the organic shapes of the hem. They are striking.

The Sami Miro Vintage girl is detail-oriented, a forward-thinker, a raw-beauty and she is unique.

Who would be your dream girl to see in the collection?

Since I launched the collection a month ago, I am so fortunate to have already seen so many of my dream girls in the collection: Kylie Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Dua Lipa, Imaan Hammam, Kendall Jenner, Jordyn Woods, Justine Skye, and several more. If I have the chance to see another icon in the collection, it would be Michelle Obama.
