1. We tried: Body Glide
- (AD) Body Glide for Her Moisturising Anti-Chafe Stick, £24.95 from Amazon – buy here
We really rated Body Glide, and the US-based anti-chafing cream could be our favourite out of the lot – even if it is usually recommended for long-distance runners.
We applied a few swipes to our inner thighs before one of the hottest days of the year, and though we felt naturally sweaty, we never experienced any rubbing or pain.
The balm is super moisturising, long-lasting, totally plant-based and you don't even need to reapply it throughout the day.
What's more is that it never felt greasy or oily, and we felt really confident from first application.
We will admit, at over £20 on Amazon it's not cheap – but you get a big tube of it, and it lasts a long time since you only need one swipe a day.
2. We tried: Lyonsleaf
- (AD) Lyonsleaf Calendula and Marshmallow Balm, £10.95 from Amazon – buy here
Multi-award winning brand Lyonsleaf has produced a little pot of gold for irritated skin pre- and post-chub rub.
Its Calendula and Marshmallow balm is all natural, and also comes in a fully recyclable glass tub – so there's no plastic at all.
It soothes, repairs and hydrates irritated skin, creating a protective barrier against rubbing and chafing while improving skin's elasticity.
We found it smelled really natural, and you only needed to use it sparingly – so don't be put off by the size of the tub. We used it before a day in shorts and found that our skin was super soft, non-greasy and protected from nasty rashes caused by chafing.
This pot is also great for sore, cracked nipples (hello, runners and new mums!) as well as cracked, chapped lips and hands.
If you're still not sure and don't want to spend your hard-earned pennies just yet, you can grab a sample tub for just £1.99 from Lyonsleaf's website.
3. We tried: BeYou
- BeYou Chafing Cream, £12.99 – buy here
Don't be put off by the almost gel-like consistency of this chafing cream from BeYou, as it is really one of the best anti-chafing creams out there.
Although a little small-looking for £12.99, you only need a pea-sized amount on the affected area before you head out for a long, hot and sweaty day – especially since it claims to be high-performance.
We used it with shorts, and were concerned it was a little tacky at first – but it fast absorbed into our inner thighs and offered great protection, even on hotter days.
It takes a little while to get the pump going, but the smell is fantastic – natural lavender and jasmine – and it's even better knowing that the ingredients are vegan, cruelty-free and there's nothing artificial in there.
It is dermatologically tested, and has an anti-bacterial formula that includes Colloidal Silver – so you know that not only does it smell great, but that it's also great for your skin.
4. We tried: LUSH Silky Underwear
- Silky Underwear Dusting Powder, £9 from LUSH – buy here
High-street skincare giant LUSH has jumped on the anti-chafing bandwagon with a gorgeous-smelling dusting powder called Silky Underwear.
The vegan powder has scores of five-star reviews, and is like talc without any talcum powder or nasty chemicals in it – it's chock with Fairtrade, organic cocoa butter so it smells and does great.
We used it straight after a shower, after we towel-dried, on our thighs, and we noticed it was extremely moisture-wicking, and left us feeling silky smooth.
However, we wouldn't recommend using this as a chub rub protector on those hotter days – especially if you're walking around a lot – as it wears off and you'll need to keep applying.
Still, it feels good, smells fantastic and is under a tenner for what feels like luxury for your legs and chub rub hotspots.
- Salcura Bioskin Adult Dermaspray, £16.99 from FeelUnique – buy here
This DermaSpray from Salcura combines a super easy-to-use spray with an all-natural ingredients list to make this a chafe victim's dream.
It calms and soothes itchy, irritable skin and offers a natural, protective layer to protect against light chafing from clothes, or gym wear.
Its formula is 98% natural, and is chock with skin-loving aloe vera, lavender, and tea tree – as well as almond and olive oils.
- Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream, £2.99 from Boots – buy here
We're pretty sure all of us have a tub of trusty Sudocrem in the bathroom cupboard.
The antiseptic healing cream is a cheap miracle worker that works to soothe and heal irritated skin, as well as form a protective barrier for the dreaded chub rub.
It doesn't look the part, but for it's budget price point and 101 uses, it's a fantastic little pot to throw in your bag for trips, or to have handy for those hotter summer days.
- Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment, £3.30 from Boots – buy here
Okay, so we know that this says it's Nappy Care Ointment – but believe us, it works, and you will be crying like a baby without it!
It's super soft and moisturising, and safe enough for babies – so you know it'll be delicate enough for fragile inner thigh skin, which is prone to chafing and damage.
It forms a breathable, protective barrier – like what babies need to protect themselves from nappy rash – and works to moisturise and soothe, while staving off pain from skin rubbing together.
8. SOS Serum
- SOS Serum, from £5 for 15ml – buy here
This highly-moisturising anti-chafing cream has tons of properties – including being a fantastic cooling and protective aid to irritated, chafing skin.
The serum comes in a range of sizes, from 15ml to 200ml, so it can be perfect for travelling – and it's ideal for treating bug bites and minor sunburn.
It's vegan, cruelty-free and entirely free from nasty chemicals or parabens – making it ideal for the most sensitive of skin, including for those with eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis.
9. Ultra Bee
- 100% Natural Cyclist Chamois Cream, £15.95 from Ultra Bee – buy here
This 100% natural anti-chafing cream has been made especially to prevent rubbing and chafing for cyclists, so you know it'll do the job for your chafing hotspots.
Made with beeswax, honey, calendula and propolis, it keeps any affected areas totally sterile and protected from painful friction.
It's completely chemical free, super hypoallergic and ideal for sensitive skin. Plus, since it's suitable for cyclists and ultra distance exercise, it's long-lasting so it will keep you protected all day long. Buzzing!
Does anti chafing cream work?
There are a lot of different factors to consider when choosing the best anti-chafing cream to work for you.
Whether you want to use it everyday to allow yourself to wear shorts, skirts and dresses on hotter days without pain from chub rub, or during exercise – especially on your nipples and thighs when running, or cycling – anti-chafing cream works to stop pain and irritation.
At Sun Selects, we have tried and tested some of the best anti-chafing cream and can tell you that they work.
What is anti chafing cream?
Anti-chafing cream helps to prevent painful skin irritation, rashes and sore spots from walking (especially on warmer days), exercising or wearing irritable clothing.
The best anti-chafing creams are usually chock-full of all-natural, sterile and often anti-septic ingredients to protect your most sensitive spots from rubbing and becoming painful.
How does anti chafing cream work?
Anti-chafing cream works by creating a moisturising, protective layer between rubbing and chafing skin.
It prevents often sweaty skin from becoming sore, irritated, inflamed or from developing rashes.
It can also be applied after bouts of chafing to help soothe, hydrate and repair irritated, broken skin.
How to use anti chafing cream
For best results, it is recommended to use anti-chafing cream on clean skin that isn't weeping or cracked.
After towel-drying the area, apply sparingly – or according to instructions – and leave to dry and absorb into the skin before wearing clothing or letting skin rub together.
Where to apply anti chafing cream
There are many different hotspots that are ripe for chafing and rubbing, but where to apply anti-chafing cream is totally dependent on your needs.
It can be applied on your inner thighs, nipples (if you're running), underarms, and even under breasts and buttocks (usually when cycling).
Is anti chafing cream waterproof?
Yes, most anti-chafing cream is waterproof. Since your skin chafes and gets irritated from the production of sweat and moisture, the best anti-chafing creams are there to act as a barrier against the salt crystals your sweat produces, whichthen dry and cause painful friction.
Your anti-chafing cream will stay devoted to you throughout the hottest days while you sweat – but for best results we recommend reapplying after swimming or showering, as it'll likely get washed off.
