Among the stars sporting vampy looks was Dua Lipa, 26,  who looked resplendent in a vintage Gianna Versace bondage gown, that boasted belted strap detailing and gold hardwear.

The bodice of her dress was sheer and featured a corset that clung to her slender frame, while the harness gown was previously worn by Donatella in the 1990s.

Speaking to FEMAIL, celebrity stylist Rochelle White said: ‘The lace, corset and bra fashion trend we’re currently seeing across many award shows comes from some of the past AW22 and SS22 collections that hit the catwalk last year.

‘It’s all about bringing sexy back, and showing what is usually under garms on full show.

Olivia Rodrigo, 19, opted for a corset detail in a floor-length Vivienne Westwood gown which featured a magenta glitter illusion and a matching glove – another big trend of the season.

‘We saw bits of this back in January with daring cut out detail and the G string trousers being a favourite amongst celebrities.

‘I feel that the popularity of this look has been driving with shows such as Bridgerton and Euphoria. It’s not so much the restrictiveness of a corset, but more the look and feel.

‘It brings sexy, it can make anyone wearing it feel empowered, confident and can be a way to express their personalities and have some fun, with fashion.

Some – including Saweetie (left in a wore a hot pink Valentino bra top with a matching high-waisted maxi skirt) and Leah Haywood – ditched their top halves completely wearing just a bra with their stylish ensembles.

‘Also, nothing says sexy or even risky then rocking underwear as outerwear.

‘I feel that celebrities are looking to be a bit more daring with fashion this year and rock as much flesh showing outfits as possible and better than on red carpets.’

Elsewhere, Chrissy Teigen opted for a Nicole + Felicia Couture pink gown with corset detailing.

Popular Culture Expert Nick Ede added that the trend has been around for years but the resurgence will see it trickle down and seen at festivals soon.

‘The overwhelming trend this year on the red carpet at the Grammys was the use of corsetry and lace embracing the underwear as outerwear trend that has been a staple of music videos and editorial shoots for many years,’ he explained.

‘The trend started in 2021 and looks to dominate in an even bigger way in 2022. The look really started at festivals and has gained popularity for many years.

The corset was a popular choice! Halsey (left) rocked an edgy off-the-shoulder look featuring a shimmering burgundy bustier that showcased several tattoos on their arm while Dontella herself opted for a gown with boning

‘It was a great way of minimum effort with maximum style impact a way of dressing comfortably but still staying in fashion.

‘We’ve seen Madonna do it and Rihanna too but Dua Lipa is the queen of this look who is now known for styling her looks with lingerie – usually in the day time but now since her world tour she’s been dressing like it on the red carpet and it works so well.

‘Her Grammys outfit was a heightened version of her known style implacably created by Versace and bringing the underwear/ outerwear trend bang up to date and create a must have look that makes her every inch the pop icon that she’s becoming.

‘Stars like Kim K and Bella Hadid are known for daytime corsets and once again this trend is now a nigh time look – its interesting to see that an 18th century fashion is still just as important in the 21st century, corsets and bustiers accentuate the figure, are surprisingly comfortable and create a silhouette that exudes confidence and style.

‘The use of lace and bright colours is both sexy and eye catching and creates a really strong look on the red carpet – brands like Savage Fenty by Rihanna have really jumped on the lace as outerwear trend and are making it accessible for everyone.

‘This trend is going nowhere and I think we will see it not only at festivals and concerts this summer but it will be a staple evening look matching dark colours with shocking neons to create the wow factor’.
