Martin Lewis shares secret trick to get online discount codes this Black Friday
MARTIN Lewis has shared a secret trick that could get online shoppers a discount this Black Friday.
The MoneySavingExpert founder asked his Twitter followers whether they've recently bagged a voucher using the hack.
Martin said shoppers have been able to get discount codes by filling up their online shopping baskets but not buying anything.
This prompts some retailers to offer you a chance to get a reduced price in a bid to persuade you to make a purchase.
He said: "Have you recently done the old 'abandon goods in your online shopping basket' trick to see if you then get sent a discount code.
"If so, did it work and at what stores?"
The replies were mixed, with some people saying it had happened to them but others saying they had only been sent a discount after making a purchase.
One Twitter user said: "Buy-it-now sellers on eBay will often give a discount shortly after saving an item in your watch list."
Another said: "Bought curtains from Dunelm online last week.
"Forgot about them in the basket. Walked away.
"When [I] came back a good couple of hours later, 5% discount was being offered."
"I wasn’t even aware of this until my ‘allotted screen time’ shut me down so I put the phone down," another person added.
"A few hours later I got an email offering a discount. No tricks but this is unfair to those who buy and continue to complete the transaction. Dual pricing isn’t fair."
Others said the same trick has worked at Amazon, Adidas and Wayfair.
It could be worth a try but it's not guaranteed to get you a discount code.
The tip came as retailers slashed prices for Black Friday, and could help shoppers get extra money off.
If you're shopping in the Black Friday sales, make sure you compare prices elsewhere to check you're getting the best deal.
You should really only buy something if you were already planning on making a purchase, otherwise it's not really a sale.
Martin also shared his Black Friday tips this morning, saying you should only buy something if you've checked whether it's cheaper elsewhere.

"If you're skint ask yourself: Do I need it? Can I afford it? Have I checked if it is cheaper elsewhere?" he said.
"If not skint ask yourself: Will I use it? It's it worth it? Have I checked if it is cheaper elsewhere? If the answer to any is no. DON'T BUY IT."
