Meghan branded ‘childish’ after fans banned from taking her photo at Wimbledon
Meghan Markle has been labelled 'childish' after fans were banned from taking photos of her at Wimbledon – even though there were 12,000 people in the crowd and more than a million people watching her on TV.
The Duchess of Sussex and her two friends were at Court 1 last week watching her close pal Serena Williams in the second round of the competition.
The three women were in the middle of a section of about 40 empty seats, with only Meghan's security staff sitting nearby.
They looked relaxed and happy as they watched the tense match, and Meghan was wearing an adorable 'A' necklace for her little boy Archie.
But tennis fans claim they were ordered not to take pictures of them sitting in the crowds
Protection officers said it wasn't allowed as they were there in a 'private capacity' – even though the match including shots of Meghan cheering in the crowd was broadcast on the BBC to more than a million people.
Sally Jones, 64, was sitting in the same row as Meghan but didn't notice her until a member of the royal protection officer tapped her on the sholder.
The PR consultant claims he said: "Would you not take photographs of the Duchess. She's here in a private capacity."
Ms Jones was outraged and told the Daily Telegraph she believed the royal protection officer was "quite embarrassed" and "appeared a bit mystified" as to why he was having to make the request.
She said: "The whole thing seemed incredibly arbitrary. It was clear that I couldn't have been less of a threat. I was an ordinary, middle-England spectator, there to watch the tennis.
"I'm actually a royalist, I think Meghan is a highly-talented, lively woman who is a breath of fresh air for the Royal Family.
"But it saddens me that they are weakening their impact through this behaviour. It makes them look silly. It's childish and takes us for fools."
Meghan wore blue jeans, a black top and white blaze for the game, and was joined by her university friends Lindsey Roth and Genevieve Hillis – who are rumoured to be Archie's godparents.
