Renee Zellweger shines as Judy Garland in first ‘Judy’ trailer
Get ready to follow the yellow brick road.
The first trailer for the biopic “Judy” has arrived, in which Renée Zellweger stars as Judy Garland.
As “Over the Rainbow,” a tune Garland memorably sang in “The Wizard of Oz” (1939), plays, Zellweger is shown greeting fans, performing onstage and looking forlorn, alone in her dressing room.
The captivating teaser lasts a little more than a minute.

Producers unveiled the first image of Zellweger as Garland in March 2018,
The film is set in winter of 1968 when Garland travels to London for a run of concerts at the Talk of the Town nightclub. She would die of an accidental overdose the next year, at 47.
“Judy” will delve into Garland’s behind-the-scenes battles with her management, her relationships with charmed musicians and fans as well as family drama playing out behind-the-scenes of the London performances.
A release for the film said Garland would be depicted as “fragile.” “After working for 45 of her 47 years, she is exhausted; haunted by memories of a childhood lost to Hollywood; gripped by a desire to be back home with her kids,” the release stated. “Will she have the strength to go on?”

Last June, Garland’s daughter Liza Minnelli expressed her disapproval of the project.
“I have never met nor spoken to Renee Zellweger,” Minnelli wrote in response to an article from Radar Online which claimed she and Zellweger had bonded. It appears the story has since been removed.
“I don’t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way,” Minnelli continued. “Any reports to the contrary are 100% Fiction.”
