‘O’Grady’s Bar’ is complete with a state of the art pool table, three TVs, beer on tap, a games room, and a jukebox.

John said: “We have gone to town on it. It is not going to disappear or rot away any time soon. There is Wi-Fi, a toilet, central heating and it is fully insulated too!”

The bar is Las Vegas-themed and has memorabilia from all the places the family have visited.

Solihull dad John told Birmingham Live: “The whole family helped. It was an enjoyable project because it was a total family effort. It has been a great team build and a real memory building project.”

John’s family includes his wife Shell, their four children, their daughter-in law, and John’s mum and dad, who all live together and helped with the build.

“It feels like a pub because there are so many of us living together in our house. I know we are very lucky because we haven’t suffered through lockdown like some people have.”

The sports bar officially ‘opened’ in September and his family have enjoyed it every weekend: “We spend most Friday and Saturday nights in there as a family now and we’re often in there on a Sunday afternoon watching the football.”

The pub is 12 metres by six metres in size and cost between £40,000 and £50,000 to build.

John was also able to get his friend David Brown, a graffiti artist, involved. David designed and spray-painted the walls giving the bar a modern feel.

John also arranged to have beer kegs delivered regularly by Mark O’Neill who runs O’Neil’s Brewery in nearby Rugby. Mark’s brewery was at risk of going under when the pandemic hit so he teamed up with On the Bar Solutions which is helping people create their own home pubs, much like John’s.

From On the Bar Solutions, people can purchase a home bar starter kit for £699. You can even have the whole thing built and delivered to your doorstep at a base price of £380.

When lockdown restrictions are less strict and things start to return to normal, John and his family are looking forward to sharing O’Grady’s Bar with their friends: “Nobody has seen it yet because of lockdown. They have seen pictures, but we can’t wait for them to see it for real.

“I can’t see us going to the pub much now we have this in our garden!”
