If Spurs are to have any success tonight, it won’t be without the input of Harry Kane or Heung-Min Son.

The latter has struggled for form this year, despite winning the Premier League Golden Boot last term, and will hope for a big performance tonight.

Kane, meanwhile, recently became the club’s all-time top goalscorer but he won’t be able to do it all himself tonight.

It was the last time Tottenham met AC Milan at the San Siro, and a night when Italian rage came up against Scottish granite.

February 15, 2011. A Champions League tie decided by Peter Crouch’s winning goal, but remembered more for Gennaro Gattuso’s furious bust-up with Joe Jordan.

There is no better time for Tottenham to face AC Milan. Stefano Pioli’s team are going through a very difficult moment and the painful 1-0 victory against Torino on Friday perfectly captured the psychological limits of a team that seems to be severely lacking in confidence.

The defeats by Sassuolo, Lazio and Inter Milan in the derby were major blows for the team and above all jeopardised Pioli’s position.

Despite storming the Serie A title last season, it’s been a year of struggle for the reigning champions of Italy.

Milan, in 2023, have won just two games and it’s slowly seen them sink down to fifth in the table. A 5-2 trouncing to Sassuolo followed by defeat to rivals Inter has dampened their spirit of late.

For Antonio Conte, it’s been a very difficult week. Not because of his recovery from gallbladder surgery but because of the growing injury concerns facing his Spurs side.

Summer signing Yves Bissouma underwent an operation, Rodrigo Bentancur was ruled out for the season after tearing his ACL and Hugo Lloris was sidelined for eight weeks.

It means that the north London side will likely field a midfield duo of youngsters Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg suspended.
