Anthony Joshua should fight Andy Ruiz Jr in his own backyard in Mexico, says Lennox Lewis – The Sun

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been urged to rematch Andy Ruiz Jr in the champion’s backyard in Mexico by Lennox Lewis.

AJ faces a career defining night in December as he looks set to fight underdog hero Ruiz for a second time.

Having been floored four times on the way to a seventh round stoppage defeat on his US debut in New York in June, Joshua will get a shot at redemption, targeted for the end of the year.

With confirmation on the rematch venue yet to be decided, the last undisputed heavyweight champion Lewis told FightHype he would like Ruiz’s Mexican fans to be ringside for the historic showdown.

Lewis said: "You know where I really want to see the fight? In Mexico baby.

“Why not? In the first time in history we have a heavyweight champion from Mexico.

I would have never thought that was possible but to see Andy Ruiz do it in such a fine fashion why not?

“Give the fans in Mexico a chance to see the fight that didn’t get a chance to come to New York to see it.”

Ruiz has vowed to avoid a UK rematch in fear the fight will be “set up” after Dillian Whyte was cleared to fight Oscar Rivas last month, despite an “adverse finding” in a pre-fight drug test.

But promoter Eddie Hearn insists Brit superstar Joshua has the final say on where the re-run takes place.

The Matchroom Boxing chief claims Cardiff’s Principality Stadium remains a favourite to host the rematch, but hinted an “iconic” international neutral venue could rival plans for a UK bout.
