Arsenal fans turn on each other after booing Mustafi as he is subbed on in 2-1 loss to Lyon – The Sun

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI was booed by his own fans as Arsenal slumped to a 2-1 home to defeat to Lyon in the Emirates Cup.

The German came off the bench on 70 minutes and was met with loud boos from the home fans as he made his way onto the pitch.

And some fans were proved right when just moments later, Lyon took the lead through Moussa Dembele and Mustafi was badly at fault.

The 27-year-old let the forward streak through on goal while trying to play him offside.

'OUR FANS ARE AWFUL'

But the linesman ignored his arm which he struck aloft as he frantically scurried back to clean up the mess he had caused.

It was to no avail though as Dembele calmly slotted the ball home to give Lyon the lead.

Despite Mustafi's brief cameo some Gunners fans had no time for the German and clearly want him out the club.

But this angered many of a red persuasion on Twitter who thought it was unacceptable to boo one of their own.

One tweeted: "Mustafi got booed when his name was announced. Our fans are awful."

And the tweet received a barrage of mixed replies with one saying: "Good it's what he deserves," and: "Right thing to do, he must leave. Shambles of a player."

However some were not pleased by their fellow fans with one supporter tweeting: "Unbelievable that people think one of OUR players deserves to get booed. New season clean slate.

"When he messes up we give him stick but booing before anything happens is disrespectful. Shouldn’t call yourselves Arsenal fans."
