Cancelo link cooled
Despite Joao Cancelo being 'appreciated' by Arsenal, don't expect the Gunners to make a move for the Man City star.
Fabrizio Romano believes now Mikel Arteta's side are on the verge of announcing Jurrien Timber, they will be covered at right-back.
Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “Arsenal have always monitored them [Cancelo and Henrichs]. We always mentioned Cancelo as a player appreciated by Arsenal.
“But, at the moment, I think with Timber, their idea is to cover the right-back and centre-back positions. He’s a very versatile player that Mikel Arteta loves to have in the squad. So, this is the idea.”

Timber could impact like Zinchenko
Goal journalist Charles Watts believes Arsenal's new signing Jurrien Timber could have the same impact as Oleksandr Zinchenko.
“From what I understand from people who were pretty close to him, he is so excited about Arsenal," he told Teamtalk.
“It’s always only been Arsenal for him this summer. It’s just been a case of the clubs agreeing the fee and Ajax have held out for as much as they can get. Everyone’s happy with the deal.
“Arsenal are getting a very, very exciting player in Timber who potentially could have as big of an impact on them this coming season as Zinchenko had last season.”

Tierney should 'step away'
Kieran Tierney has been urged to leave Arsenal by BBC Sport pundit Kenny Miller.
The Scottish left-back was out of favour last season, as Oleksandr Zinchenko was preferred.
“I think he probably needs to now. When he plays, he’s a world class left-back. To play regular football, he probably needs to step away from Arsenal,” Miller said.
“There will be lots and lots of teams that will take it. He’ll have loads of potential suitors. If he moves, he’ll have a number of options. If he’s not going to be getting a game, he’s too good to sitting as part of a squad.
“It doesn’t seem to affect his performances at an international level. When you’re playing week in, week out, there’s maybe just a different edge to your game. I think there’s potentially more in him from what we’ve seen.
“He’s one of our best players. A move to Newcastle with everything that’s going on at that place at the moment would be a really big step. Champions League football as well, so he’s not going to be stepping away from that level.”

Xhaka denies wife wanted move
Granit Xhaka has denied that his wife had anything to do with him swapping Arsenal for Bayer Leverkusen.
He told Keystone-SDA: "There was speculation everywhere that my wife was no longer happy in England. That is not at all true.

"The league is not new, but the club is.
"During the talks with Simon Rolfes [sporting director] and Xabi Alonso, I felt that the long-term project at Leverkusen was worthwhile and that it was 100 per cent in line with me."

“We have a good experience from the last season as well. We know that the season is so long. So we are confident, and we know we can do something good at this club.”

Luis Suarez famous bid
Arsenal’s former transfer chief Dick Law revealed why the club made their infamous £40million and £1 offer for Luis Suarez when he played for Liverpool.
Suarez had a clause in his contract with the Reds that they had to inform him of any bid if it was more than £40m.
That spring, news got round to us that Suarez wanted out of Liverpool. We knew that we had to exceed a certain threshold and so we decided to throw another pound on it.
We could have thrown £50 or £500,000, but it wasn’t going to make any difference to the final negotiation. The offer was just a trigger. Liverpool wanted to make a big deal out of it and that’s fine. When they received our offer they immediately publicised it.
I think John Henry wanted to know what we were smoking, which I thought was a bit disrespectful. It was him having a bit of a go because he was getting ready to lose his star player. It was a good way to deflect attention.
I always thought that the move to publicise it was counter-productive. One of the things we were always very proud of at Arsenal was working quietly behind the scenes. Ivan [Gazidis], Arsene [Wenger] and I always worked very hard on being discreet in all transfers.
And I thought Liverpool shot themselves in the foot by basically saying they were now forced to entertain offers because of this clause, by publicising it they just made everyone aware and eventually they lost the player.

Joao Cancelo update
Manchester City may not sell Joao Cancelo to Arsenal despite a hapless loan stint at Bayern Munich.
We know that Arsenal would love to explore Joao Cancelo if that's possible, and it will be very intriguing to see if Manchester City are open to a deal because a year ago Man City were happy to do business with Arsenal because they didn't really see them as a title challenger.
But given the season Arsenal have had and where the project's heading, Manchester City may suddenly decide that Arsenal are not a club that they want to do business with, which would be a compliment to Arsenal because it shows that they've managed to close the gap even though they weren't able to get over the line.

Romeo Lavia update
Southampton star Romeo Lavia's suitors, including Arsenal, are desperate to have his £50million asking price lowered.
They've all been using the buyback clause for 2024 which is available to Manchester City as a kind of yardstick, even though that's not active and that's set at £40m.
So I think that clubs looking at Lavia may feel there may be a deal there to be done, especially with player buy-in and Southampton down.
But, the price has to come down, because I think £50m for Lavia seems to be quite steep.
