Mark Sanchez has historically high hopes for the Jets
Maybe Mark Sanchez still feels bad about the Butt Fumble or maybe he really is buying into the Jets’ new coach and latest attempt at a franchise quarterback.
The former Jets signal caller, starting his first year as an analyst for NFL Network, predicted Gang Green will go 13-3 this season with Sam Darnold and coach Adam Gase at the helm. Sanchez, during a segment going through the Jets schedule on “NFL Total Access,” only has the Jets losing to the Patriots at Foxborough, the Raiders at home and the Bills in Buffalo to end the regular season. The Jets have never won 13 games in a season, winning 12 just once in 1998 under Bill Parcells.
“Good luck Sammy,” a smiling Sanchez said when he was through.
Sanchez, who was laughing at times and brought on chuckles from others in the studio, has the Jets beating the Eagles in Week 5 after their bye week. It would be the first-ever victory for Gang Green over Philadelphia in 11 tries. He even made light of his 45-19 loss to the Eagles in 2011 when quarterbacking the Jets.
“I was a part of one of those losses, not fun,” Sanchez said. “They’re gonna get it done. Sorry Philly. I played there, too.”
After mistakenly calling the Jets’ Week 10 game against the Giants “the Snoopy Bowl” and giving them the victory, Sanchez predicted it would be Eli Manning they would be beating.
“Daniel Jones is still not playing yet, don’t worry.” said Sanchez, who started against the Giants for the Redskins last season.
Sanchez added that Gase will not lose to his former team the Dolphins and Le’Veon Bell would win his “grudge match” with the Steelers. The Jets will also “dominate the Bengals” in Week 13 after losing to the Raiders.
The season ending loss to the Bills will be because the Jets will have clinched a playoff spot and will let “some younger guys play.”
