Lopetegui arrived at Molineux in November 2022, and guided them to a 13th-placed finish having won nine and drawn four of his 23 top-flight matches.

But despite taking 31 points from a possible 69, the Spaniard doesn't feel he's been backed in the summer market.

Former defender Matt Doherty has been the only incoming on a free transfer, while Ruben Neves, Conor Coady, Nathan Collins and Raul Jimenez have left for around £84million.

Lopetegui has already said that Wolves must "solve" their Financial Fair Play issues, and it appears the goalposts have moved again.

He told Guillem Balague on the Pure Football Podcast: "I came here with a project and idea that if we were able to save the team, we would be able to improve.

"It was bad news for me. I tried in the summer. This was Plan A. We went to a Plan B, trying to think about cost-effective players, but it’s true at the moment we can’t develop this plan, too.

"We lost a lot of players and we think the club want to sell more players. In this situation, we need players to balance the squad and be competitive in the Premier League."

A record-breaking 14 top-flight bosses were either sacked or left their positions in 2023-23, with Bournemouth axing Scott Parker just four matches into the season.

There have been previous instances of managers leaving in the summer — most notably when Tony Pulis departed Crystal Palace two days before start of new season.

Paul Heckingbottom is available at 6/1.

The Barnsley-born manager helped Sheffield United achieve promotion from the Championship but has lost seven of his only ten fixtures as a Premier League boss.

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is priced at 9/1.

Cooper, 43, guided the club to a 16th-placed position despite being considered 'on the brink' several times under notoriously trigger-happy owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Marco Silva (10/1) is no longer favourite to be the first managerial departure having rejected a huge £40 million proposal from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.
