Social media users are poking fun at Sol Campbell after he posted a list of his footballing achievements on Twitter in an outrage over not being named in the New Year.
The former Arsenal and England defender said he has seen ‘a lot of people’ being awarded honours for services to sport, before making it clear that he felt he should be among them.
Posting a series of tweets, Campbell stated eight reasons as to why he should have been included, but his tweet has been met with as met with a flurry of memes of social media.
The rant was labelled ‘bizarre’ by one fan, while another added: ‘This is what happens when you surround yourself with people who don’t challenge your laughable opinions.’

A third tweeted a meme of a cartoon man pointing at himself in the mirror saying: ‘Get in there and make it about you.’
Another user posted a picture of the famous Austin Powers character Dr Evil, with the caption: ‘Need a hug?’
A fifth posted a clip of a man slow clapping, adding: ‘Let’s hear it for Sol Campbell’.
One user tweeted a gif of a man strutting confidently through a set of double door before taking his sunglasses off, saying: ‘Stepping into 2023 with the self-confidence Sol Campbell has’.
Another tweeted: ‘Agreed. When I discuss the greatest defenders of my lifetime, your name regularly comes up amongst Maldini, Cannavaro, Nesta, Baresi, Thuram, Puyol and co…’
They added a gif of a series of confused looking characters.

Earlier, Campbell gave eight reasons why he should have made the cut, as he tweeted: ‘I’ve seen a lot of people get MBE OBE Sir’s for services to sport I will put my name down reasons why!
‘First is the 56 games without losing, [it] is a record. Two, invincible Arsenal team 49 games without losing, a record. Three, first black player to score in World Cup Final for England!’
The third point left some fans scratching their heads as Campbell never played in a World Cup final, although his only England goal did come at the World Cup finals against Sweden in 2002.
He continued: ‘Four, first black captain to lift a cup at Wembley. Five, first black English speaking player to score in a champions league final.
‘Six, I played two decades and over 500 games in the premiership. Seven, stood up for racism in football here and abroad!’

Other footballing stars did make the list, with Leah Williamson, Beth Mead, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze all recognised after their role in the Lionesses’ triumph at the Euros.
The list did face some criticism, as fans argued that more of Sarina Wiegman’s side should have been named after their historic win.
One noticeable absence from the 48-year-old list of achievements was his brief management career, which most recently of saw him depart Southend in 2020 as they were relegated after winning just four of 23 games under him.
