Sunderland sub Jimmy Dunne reveals he got a nick on the Portsmouth free kick that hit the bar. “I was in the wall and happy I got something on it because it would have gone in. Little inches like that have cost us in the past so maybe we got a bit of luck tonight that was well overdue.”

On Ozturk's dismissal, he says, “It was never a red card. There were a lot of players crowding around the ball so Alim was really unlucky but these things happen.”

Sunderland hero Chris Maguire speaks! Describing his goal, he says; “I just anticipated the ball being cleared and thankfully I hit it sweetly and it flew in.

“I was disappointed not to start but we've got a big squad. I just knew if my chance came I'd have to take it and I've done that tonight. But we're only half way there but it's a great step in the right direction.”
