A Place in the Sun couple baffles viewers by falling for ‘prison cell’ property

A Place in the Sun guests have left viewers baffled as they fell in love with a remove villa that looked like a "prison cell".

Jo and Neil, who lives in Exmouth in the UK, were looking for a dream home in Lecce, the southern region of Italy and with a £200,000 budget, the couple wanted a two-bed house with separate guest room.

Appearing on the Thursday (May 6) programme on Channel 4, host Jasmin Harman took them the city of Brindisi for the house search.

The couple knocked out the first two properties due to the lack of inside space and small kitchen, so Jasmin took them to the town of San Vito dei Normanni where it has historical churches and a good selection of cafes.

The third property, which is a villa with two separate guest accommodation, offered a huge swimming pool and two bedrooms and a two-acre land.

The couple loved the stone-built finishing and the huge space that it offered inside the main building.

Jo said: "Wow the pool, I want to jump in now. That is beautiful, You could do lengths."

One of the two standalone guest annexes came with its own kitchenette.

"I could see us having friends here," Neil added.

Walking into the other annex, Jo fell in love with the dome-shaped roof, saying: "It's like having a trullo, love it."

Neil said it's "ideal" that it came with a toilet as well.

After the viewing, they told Jasmin that they picked the property as their first contender.

But viewers were not convinced as they blasted over the design of the building.

One fan wrote: "Eek! That looks like a holding cell from the outside."

Another also commented: "Looks like three prison cells from the outside."

A viewer compared it to "toilet blocks" while a second called it "nuclear bunkers".
