On Friday’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, a double-elimination saw EastEnders veteran Adam and Olympian Matty Lee leaving Gwrych Castle. The soap star had talked during the ITV show about how his life has taken a drastic turn-around recently since he left EastEnders after more than 30 years as Ian Beale. His personal life has also brought the actor some recent challenges, and while talking about this with hosts Ant and Dec, the 53-year-old became emotional.

As the two contestants said their goodbyes to their fellow campmates, Ant and Dec were waiting to chat to them about their time on the show.

“You talked about your life having taken a turn-around, would you say this has helped?” Ant McPartlin asked.

Adam replied: “A bit, erm…I’d look at it as…”

The actor became choked up and tearful and joked: “Ohhh, you got me!”

As well as leaving EastEnders, Adam recently divorced his wife of 21 years.

He continued: “I’d looked at it like it was going to be a new start.

“There’s a lot of stuff still going on,” he candidly admitted.

“But in terms of mentally, I bet it was great to go in there, make new friends and get away from the distractions of life?” Ant probed.

“Oh, mentally, I’ve sorted myself out,” Adam stated. “Yeah, my head was in the right place for going in there, which is why I’ve loved it so much.”

Declan Donnelly also quizzed Adam on his habit of running around the camp doing all the chores.

“When I’m at home, I’m lazy,” he admitted.

“If I get a chance to sit on my phone doing nothing for three hours I will take it.

“But in there, there’s no other distraction. So I just did everything.”

Adam officially came in sixth place, and several fans were disappointed to see him leaving the show.

Twitter user @losthewill wrote: “NOOOO ADAM WTF!???!?! I’m absolutely fuming #imaceleb.”

MarkySciFi1980 penned: “Well I’m surprised Adam went #Imac #ImACeleb.”

“Quite shocked Adam has gone to be honest. I don’t mean to be nasty but kind of knew it would be Matty #ImACeleb,” Mikepriestley13 shared.

Mjayneex added: “Adam robbed I wanted to see him in the Cyclone #imaceleb #imacelebrity.”

KJApaLuv commented: “I’m surprised Adam didn’t go further as he’s the most well-known #ImACeleb.”

niccijane_cfc echoed these views, stating: “Devastated that Adam and Matty have gone but I’m happy Frankie has made the final 4  #ImACeleb.” (sic)

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out OF Here! continues on Saturday at 9pm on ITV.
