BBC legend reveals cancer diagnosis after her sister died from same disease | The Sun
BBC legend Dame Joan Bakewell has revealed she's been diagnosed with cancer.
The journalist, 89, announced on Tuesday she was told she had colon cancer during a routine examination.
It is understood she was operated on before Christmas.
She said: "I’ve always been optimistic because I caught this cancer early on, and within a week I was in hospital having an operation."
Still undergoing treatment, Dame Joan added: "I’ve recovered from [surgery].
"I’m feeling fine, and the chemotherapy is a mopping-up operation to make sure it doesn’t come back."

The heart-breaking diagnosis comes after her sister Susan died from breast cancer at the age of 58.
Dame Joan has been a Breast Cancer Care patron since.
