The premise of the BBC show is for one of four contestants to be selected at random and once they’ve picked a category, the wheel will then land on a famous face. Each celebrity specialises in one of the categories, so players hope they’ll land on the expert so they can advise them on the correct answer. But presenter AJ, 33, was picked by the wheel time after time, leading viewers to believe the show is “fixed”.

Even host Michael McIntyre commented that it was a record for the show.

As the wheel landed on AJ once again, viewers began to take to social media.

They also commented that because one contestant, Dean, also kept getting selected, the choice couldn’t be random.

One wrote: “The wheel is as random as bookmakers fixed odd terminals. What a fix. #thewheel.”

Another penned: “This is a fix. This is his 3rd chance. #thewheel.”

Talking about AJ, a third added: “She’s from Lancashire and the question is about Lancashire. This show is fixed. #thewheel.”

“Never seen a more fixed show in my life wow #TheWheel,” a fourth complained.

Eventually, Michael, 45, even started making jokes about the bizarre pattern.

Turning to Dean, he asked: “What category would you like AJ to help you with next?”

He went on: “Let’s spin it. It’s totally academic. AJ will once again appear in front of you.

“Let’s land on Kate, we’ve not landed on a gold – we keep landing on reds and we keep landing on AJ. This is madness.”

Later on, he commented: “This is now a record for The Wheel, nobody has been spun in this much.”

One question AJ was tasked with answering was “In the hymn ‘Morning Has Broken’, what bird has spoken like the first bird?”

The options were robin, sparrow, blackbird and cuckoo.

“Oh my gosh, well,” AJ began. “True story – I used to be a choir girl. I was an altar girl, I’ve done it all guys.”

Turning to Reverend Kate Bottley, she continued: “Kate, it’s not just you. However -“

“Oh no,” the comedian said. AJ finished: “However, I’m one of those people, I just make up the words, do you know what I mean?

“So my initial thought is what is the first bird? When you wake up in the morning, you hear ‘cuckoo, cuckoo’, that is the first bird that you hear in the morning, but actually cuckoo isn’t a bird, it’s a sound, isn’t it?”

“It started well, the advice,” Michael joked. AJ and Dean opted for robin, incorrectly, as Michael revealed the correct answer was blackbird.

Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel airs at 8.30pm on Saturdays on BBC One.
