Claudia Winkleman has been a part of Strictly Come Dancing since it first appeared on BBC screens in 2004. However, the presenter has teased she may have to walk away from the Saturday night stalwart after taking on the coveted role of Radio 2 breakfast show’s weekend presenter.

Graham Norton announced he would be stepping down as the host of the flagship Radio 2 show earlier this year.

Claudia has taken over from the chat show host and presenters her show from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays.

However, with Strictly set to return later this year, will Claudia have to choose between her two presenting jobs?

Speaking to the Going for Goal podcast, she hinted she may not be able to continue both roles for long.

She said: “My mother taught me to find something I like doing, which I think I have.”

“But I don’t know how long I’ll do it for,” the BBC presenter added.

Meanwhile, Claudia admitted she struggled with nerves ahead of her first Radio 2 show.

“The first episode of Radio 2 I could hardly speak,” she continued.

“I get very nervous presenting Strictly as well, not because I think I am doing anything important.

“I am not a doctor or a nurse or a front-line worker but you don’t want to mess it up.”

“But I love the Radio 2 listeners, what I love is that it’s immediate,” Claudia shared. “But will I be nervous for the next year?

“Yes, I think it will take that long if I am not fired. If I am fired, I understand.”

The Strictly presenter hosts the show with Tess Daly after taking over from the late Sir Bruce Forsyth in 2014.

Before then she presented Strictly spin-off It Takes Two which will be fronted by Rylan Clark-Neal and Janette Manrara later this year.

However, Claudia recently revealed during an appearance on the Woman’s Hour podcast how she almost quit the BBC show.

She explained she threatened to leave if she couldn’t help her son move into university this year.

“I phoned the boss of Strictly quite dramatically and said, through tears, ‘Sarah [James, executive producer] I love you, I never want to leave Strictly and Tess and I have agreed we will leave together when they’re done with us, that’s fine, but if the first show is September 13, I’m out and you’ll have to go with somebody else.

“She went, ‘Quite dramatic. We don’t start that week.’ I was like ‘OK!’.

“Because it’s a right of passage. I have to go and hang up his posters.

“It’s not because I love him more than other people love their kids, but I think this is something parents have to go through, and I don’t know how it’s going to work exactly.”

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One later this year. Claudia Winkleman’s Radio 2 shows airs on Saturday at 10am.
