Coronation Street confirms Qasim Akhtar's future amid Zeedan's exit scenes
Coronation Street has confirmed Qasim Akhtar’s future on the cobbles amid speculation that he’s leaving the show.
The actor, who portrays Zeedan Nazir, will shortly depart in scenes set to air this week, with his character leaving the eponymous street for a new life in London.
It had been thought by fans that Qasim would be leaving the show on a permanent basis, but Metro.co.uk understands that he isn’t gone for good and that Zeedan will continue to appear.
Zeedan’s departure scenes will air in the coming episodes, with sister Alya (Sair Khan) waving him off as he leaves for London.
The character’s decision to leave the street came shortly after the return of ex-wife Marrium, who staged a cobbles comeback last week.
Marrium arrived back on the street and told both Zeedan and Alya that she couldn’t believe that they watched her dad Hashim die in front of them and didn’t do anything to save him.
Alya, however, clapped back, claiming that she’s as much to blame for Hashim’s death as Zeedan.
Zeedan initially appeared in Coronation Street between 2014 and 2018. Qasim left the show in the latter year, before staging a comeback in 2021.
Qasim, meanwhile, recently opened up about embracing his Faith.
‘I’ve spent the last 2 years feeding my soul and starving my desires and in October I traveled to a place that once never appealed to me,’ he wrote on Instagram earlier this year.
‘The most sacred land on earth to 2 billion muslims around the world. Truly life changing.’
‘Don’t get it twisted I still have my struggles everyday we battle demons. But I’m a long way away from the dark place I once was.’
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
