Corrie fans convinced Carla and Ryan affair is ‘on the cards’ amid Peter exit
Coronation Street fans are sure an affair between Carla Barlow and Ryan Connor is "on the cards" after the Underworld boss offered him back his job in Monday night's episode.
Carla has been supporting Ryan after he was the victim of an acid attack earlier this year, with the duo – who are adoptive distant cousins – having a very close bond.
In Monday's instalment of the hit ITV soap, 18 September, Carla asked Ryan if he would think about returning to his role at Underworld to help her out and he accepted her offer, with the pair sharing a sweet moment together.
However, with Carla's partner Peter Barlow's exit confirmed for later this year, fans have been left wondering whether Carla and Ryan's closeness is going to turn into romance.
"I fear a Carla and Ryan affair will be on the cards after Peter leaves. #Corrie," one fan wrote on Twitter.
"Ryan and Carla #Corrie," another wrote with a red heart emoji, while somebody else said: "Looked up from my phone to see Carla and Ryan on the bed and immediately jumped to the wrong conclusions and assumed I'd missed a scene. #corrie".
A fourth fan said: "this is absolutely gonna lead to the locals bringing up a ryan/carla affair again bye," and a fifth added: "I love Carla and Ryan scenes".
The theory comes after it was announced that actor Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter, will be exiting the soap later this year after a 23-year stint.
Peter’s exit was announced back in July, when it was revealed that after over 20 enjoyable years on the soap, actor Chris was taking an “extended break” with no plans to return to the role for the foreseeable future.
Speaking at the time, a source told the MailOnline: “He's taking an extended break as he has done before with no set date for return as yet. He will be on screen until the end of the year, with the door will be very much left open.”
Details of Peter's exit storyline are yet to revealed, but fans believe he could be set to be framed for Stephen Reid's murders after Peter recently admitted to taking business Rufus' watch prior to his death, which was caused by Stephen.
Given the specificity of this particular plot detail, many fans have now predicted that Stephen’s crimes may soon be pinned on Peter, something which could potentially see him locked up in prison for the foreseeable future.
