Coronation Street's Faye Windass could have her future freedom jeopardised, as fans have rumbled a prison break twist for villain Ray Crosby.
Faye was imprisoned earlier this year for attacking Adam Barlow with a trophy in the Bistro, thinking he was sexual predator Ray.
But Ray was later banged up on charges related to conning the Street's residents out of their homes and properties in order to bulldoze the cobbles to make way for his dodgy housing development.
And after his former business partner Debbie blackmailed him into pleading guilty to sexually assaulting Faye, she was finally granted her freedom while Ray's trial gets underway.
But if he escapes, her future could be thrown into peril.
Taking to Facebook, one fan penned: "Hope he gets out of prison. Corrie needs a bad guy like Ray Crosby."
As someone else responded: "He needs to escape like Harvey and make a big entry through the tunnels he made for David’s house and Gail!"
"Exactly! That would be great," another fan chimed in.
As another viewer agreed: "Ray is plotting his escape plan…", while a fifth said: "He needs to be back full time."
However, other soap fans weren't so keen to see his return, as one penned: "I hate him but I’m glad he’s faced up to what he did to Faye Windass."
As someone else echoed: "Can't stand him hope he gets the blame for the sink hole too."
Another fan answered: "I hope so too he should get the blame, he paid to get it done."
Ray was recently blackmailed into changing his plea by Debbie, who reminded him that he'd get the blame for Johnny Connor's death after being held responsible for the sinkhole tragedy.
His lawyer informed him that if he didn't change his plea against Faye, he could be sentenced to up to 24 years, compared to just four years for attempted rape.
But it would make sense that such a prolific villain wouldn't go quietly into either sentence, and could wind up back on the cobbles by force.
It would be far from the first prison escape of the year, after drug lord Harvey Gaskell broke free from a prison transportation van to wreak havoc on the street – killing Natasha Blakeman in the process.
The move put Leanne, Toyah and Nick in grave danger – as well as Sharon Bentley, who took over Harvey's drug gang.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 7:30pm.
