'Counting On' Critics Think This Duggar Couple Had the 'Most Cringe Worthy' Proposal
Those who follow the Duggar family know that engagements are not uncommon. With 19 kids, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar seem to be planning a new wedding nearly every year. The Duggars enter courtships quickly and often don’t wait long to propose. But critics of the show think some of the proposals have been downright cringeworthy — though one seems to take the cake.
The Duggar kids don’t wait long before becoming engaged
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar raised their family as Baptists, and they feel it’s important to remain pure until marriage. The kids tend to start courting by their early 20s, and usually within a matter of weeks or months, they become engaged. Some have theorized that their vow to remain pure is what causes them to speed down the aisle, though that has never been confirmed.
The older Duggar kids had longer courtships than the younger kids. Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard courted for about four months, while Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald courted for a whopping 11 months. But as the younger kids started to court, the relationships became shorter and shorter. Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo only officially courted for four weeks before he proposed, while other courtships, such as Joe and Kendra Duggar, only lasted two months before the wedding planning began.
Critics of the show think Josh and Anna Duggar had the most cringe-worthy proposal
Though Counting On has plenty of fans, there are also a number of critics who hate on the show for the family’s controversial views. Critics recently debated which Duggar couple had the most “cringe worthy” proposal, and the jury is out: It was Josh and Anna.
“This shouldn’t even be a question up for debate,” one user wrote on Reddit. “Josh and Anna’s was so cringey. They barely courted or knew each other. Anna looked terrified,” someone else commented. “Josh and Anna doesn’t even count it was so terrible,” another person wrote. Still, others felt that Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo’s was the cringiest, as most thought the “big city” vibe was too staged.
People seemed to like Joy and Austin’s proposal the most
Out of all the Duggar couples, critics felt that Austin Forsyth’s proposal to Joy was the easiest to watch. Austin proposed to Joy in the woods, and since the two love hiking and spending time outdoors, it seemed fitting. “Joy and Austin were the most natural together in my opinion. I actually got through their whole proposal and wedding and didn’t want to splash bleach in my eyes,” someone wrote. “[The proposal was] simple, like the two of them. I don’t have any snark, really,” another person wrote.
Others felt like Joe and Kendra’s proposal was nice because Kendra seemed more surprised than the other Duggar women did at their proposals. Still, Joe proposed at Joy and Austin’s wedding, which some found to be tacky.
