'Counting On': The Duggars Stop By the American Girl Store and the Brady Bunch House While Visiting Jinger in L.A.
The Duggars have descended on Los Angeles. The Counting On family has been on a cross-country trip, hitting spots like the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. Now, they’re in California, where they’re spending time with Jinger Duggar and her family.
The Duggars are making the most of their time in L.A.
More than a dozen members of the Duggar family are on the trip, including mom Michelle and dad Jim Bob; several of their younger kids; oldest son Josh, his wife Anna, and their children; John and Abbie Duggar; and Jana Duggar.
Since arriving in L.A., the family has been keeping busy. Jana posted a photo of her and her sister-in-law Abbie at the Grove shopping mall and shared images from a stop at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Duggars visited the American Girl store
The Duggars also made time for a special visit to the American Girl store at the Grove, where they celebrated Josh and Anna’s oldest daughter Mackynzie’s 10th birthday.
“Had a fun stop at the American Girl store out in California today! 💞Josh and Anna’s oldest daughter Mackynzie turns 10 years old tomorrow, and she picked out a new doll as a special gift from Grandma and Grandpa Duggar! Happy (early) birthday sweet girl!! 💖 We love you!!” wrote someone on the Duggar Family Instagram account.
Mackynzie wasn’t the only person who left the store with a new item. The other younger Duggar girls weren’t left out. Josie, Jordyn, and Meredith were also spotted toting American Girl shopping bags.
They also stopped by the Brady Bunch house
The Duggars aren’t exactly known for their pop-culture savvy. Jim Bob and Michelle banned TV from the house, and many mainstream movies were off-limits. But apparently even the Counting On crowd can’t resist a dose of classic TV nostalgia.
According to Jana Duggar’s Instagram story, the Duggars paid a visit to the Brady Bunch house. She shared a photo of the entire family posing in front of the mid-century home that was used for exterior shots on the 1970s TV series. (HGTV just renovated the interior so that it now matches the soundstage sets used for the show.)
While getting excited about visiting the filming location for a secular TV show might not seem like a very Duggar-like thing to do, it might not be as surprising as you might think. While the Duggar kids didn’t really watch TV growing up, dad Jim Bob has said that he did grow up watching television.
Jim Bob was born in 1965. The Brady Bunch aired from 1969 to 1974, so he probably has memories of watching the sitcom as a kid. And the family-friendly show is pretty squeaky-clean, so perhaps he even felt that it was appropriate to show his own kids. He did say in a 2011 interview that the family sometimes watched The Andy Griffith Show on DVD. And cousin Amy Duggar let it slip that she and Jessa would watch I Love Lucy. Perhaps The Brady Bunch made it into the rotation as well.
