Denise Welch marks Coronation Street’s 60th anniversary with epic cast throwback

Denise Welch paid tribute to Coronation Street on Wednesday as the soap celebrated its 60th anniversary.

The 62-year-old actress took to social media to share an epic throwback from her time in Weatherfield playing barmaid Natalie Barnes.

The photo – which was shared on Instagram and Twitter – showed the cast at the time in The Rovers Return Inn, where a lot of scenes are filmed.

A fresh-faced Denise is stood in the right-hand-side in the picture, and is joined by the likes of Beverley Callard, William Roache, and Barbara Knox.

There's also plenty of other faces who are no longer in the ITV soap, such as Angela Griffin, Gaynor Faye and Steven Arnold.

Denise captioned the post: "So many memories and so many friends no longer here but always in our hearts. Happy 60th birthday Coronation Street and here’s to the next 60!"

Her 189,000 followers on Instagram were quick to comment on the photo, with one person writing: "What an amazing picture."

A second person wrote: "What a fantastic image brilliant cast back in the day."

And a third fan of the show added: "Happy 60th Corrie, the best soap/programme ever."

Denise's post comes after Coronation Street viewers were left utterly shellshocked at Michelle Keegan's dramatic transformation during the 60th anniversary episode.

The 33-year-old caused quite a stir as she returned to the iconic cobbles, featuring as part of the special, Coronation Street: 60 Unforgettable Years.

On the programme, which celebrated the landmark occasion, fans were transported back in time and treated to a glimpse of Michelle who joined the cast back in 2007.

While fans were overjoyed to see the actress again, many couldn't help but share their views on how different she looked now, when compared to her character Tina McIntyre.

After spotting the noticeable difference, with a side by side comparison on the anniversary tribute, many fans took to Twitter to share their opinions.

One tweet read: "Is it just me but does Michelle Keegan look different? It's as though she's had loads of work done to her face?! Not sure why though because she was beautiful!"

A second wrote: "Just watching the documentary about Corrie and Michelle Keegan doesn't even look like Michelle Keegan anymore. What has she done?"

Another added: "Sad to see Michelle Keegan in Corrie 60 Why would someone so naturally attractive do that to herself?”

While a fourth penned: "Watching this Corrie 60 thing and Michelle Keegan doesn't look like Michelle Keegan anymore."
