EastEnders spoilers: Kathy Beale kills son Ian as huge clue she’s his attacker uncovered

EastEnders: A brick is launched through Queen Vic window

As Christmas Eve descends on Albert Square, the Walford residents gathered to enjoy Christmas carols and watch a video of those who have been lost, have left EastEnders and those who still live there. As the video came to an end, a tribute to Ian Beale (played by Adam Woodyatt) popped up on screen with the message “RIP”. The whole crowed gasped as Ian told new wife Sharon (Letitia Dean): “They’re here.”

Ian began to look around at the residents gathered in the Square with Kheerat Panesar (Jaz Deol), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden), Bobby (Clay Milner Russell) and Peter Beale (Dayle Hudson) all shooting him a menacing look.

One suspect who was missing though was Ian’s mother, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth).

Kathy has shown a huge amount of interest in her son since his attack and was particularly irked to find he had married Sharon when he thought he was dying.

But before his attack, fans will remember she had disowned him when she learned he’d stolen money from her.

Kathy had told her son she wanted nothing more to do with him and he was dead to her.

However, since his attack, Kathy has been close by her son’s side and even tried to get his sons Bobby and Peter to reconcile with him.

But is it all an act so she can track Ian’s whereabouts and catch him when he’s alone?

Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) insisted the tribute had not been in the video when it was put together so it’s possible Kathy could have sneaked off to add it in without anyone realising.

The tribute noted Ian’s death would fall on Christmas Day and with the landlord wanting only his close family around him, Kathy would be in prime position to kill her son.

Meanwhile, viewers are convinced Dotty Cotton (Molly Conlin) is set to make a return to the Square to try and kill Ian.

Dotty knows Ian was partly responsible for Denny’s (Bleu Landau) death at the Queen Vic boat party earlier in the year and tried to expose him, only for Sharon to chase her out of Walford.

However, fans have speculated Sharon does in fact believe Dotty and the pair have been working together to bring down Ian.

Could Dotty have been long low all this time to avoid suspicion from Ian?

One fan theorised on Twitter: “I’m certain it was Dotty that attacked Ian #EastEnders.”

“I really think it’s Sharon and Dotty #EastEnders,” another added.

A third guessed: “Crazy theory it was dotty who attacked Ian #EastEnders.”

If Dotty does return to Walford on Christmas Day, she won’t be the only one as Denise Fox (Diane Parish) will get a shock when Lucas Johnson (Don Gilet) rocks up.

He will return to Albert Square with Denise’s daughter Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams) after he is released from prison for trying to kill her.

But what exactly do Lucas and Chelsea want with Denise and will they ruin her first Christmas with son Raymond?

EastEnders airs Christmas Day at 9.10pm on BBC One.
