Lucas was first introduced to the world of Emmerdale back in 2019 as the son of the troubled villager, Dawn Taylor (played by Olivia Bromley), who was just four years old. Over the past two years, he has made 32 appearances in the show and for the majority of those, he was played by Dexter Ansell. However, as the six-year-old takes centre stage in a brand new storyline, bosses of the ITV soap have decided to recast him with Noah Ryan Aspinall taking over the role from Monday night’s episode. Here is everything you need to know about the newcomer.

Why did the original Lucas Taylor leave Emmerdale?

Dexter became one of the most beloved actors on Emmerdale, with viewers falling in love with the youngster despite his turbulent home life.

The youngster starred alongside the actress who plays Dawn, Olivia, her surrogate stepmother, Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton), and grandfather Will Taylor (Dean Andrews).

It was not reported he was going to bow out of the role but the youngster hasn’t been seen for a while due to restrictions imposed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Therefore, Dexter’s last episode he would have featured in was broadcast in March, bringing an end to his time on the soap.

Although no specific reason has been given as to why he has left, it is most likely bosses wanted another actor to play an older version of the youngster.

Following the easing of lockdown restrictions last year and with actors able to return to filming, Dexter wasn’t allowed to make a comeback as youngsters were being kept offset.

However, Olivia stayed in touch with the young soap star as she explained: “It’s sad that we’ve not been able to film with him.

“As I think it would have added an extra layer to the high stakes to have him here. He’s been upstairs for a long time now!

“I’ve been keeping in touch with Dexter – it was his birthday recently, so we had a little chat then. He’s such a dream, he’s so funny, like a little ball of energy.”

It seems Dexter will be missed by the cast.

Who will replace the original Lucas Taylor on Emmerdale?

Newcomer Noah Ryan will be taking on the role of Lucas for the foreseeable future, with the actor making his first appearance on Monday night.

The youngster is set to become entangled in a custody battle between his mother Dawn and his estranged father, Alex (Liam Boyle).

Over the years, the character has been mentioned sparingly as he was the one who got the mother of one hooked on drugs.

He left her to bring up Lucas on her own and now the youngster is six-years-old, he has decided to walk back into his son’s life.

In Monday’s episode, the newcomer went against Dawn’s wishes as he told the youngster he was his real father, something which left Lucas shaken.

Noah Ryan only appeared for a short time but it seems he will make frequent cameos in the coming weeks as he spends more time with his father.

Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) also told Alex the youngster’s mother had been neglecting their son and Harriet was not a good person to be around.

This was because she realised her boyfriend, Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle), was still in love with Dawn and she wanted revenge.

It seems Dawn is going to have a battle on her hands as her former lover demands he gets custody of the youngster, despite only just turning up to see him six years after he was born.

Noah Ryan will surely go down a hit with viewers as the youngster gets stuck in the middle of his parent’s battle.

This is the first role Noah Ryan has undertaken and it is not yet known how long he will be portraying Lucas but it is thought he will be the character for the next few years.

No statement has been given by the show over the recasting, with viewers only noticing when they watched Monday night’s episode.

Taking to Twitter, fan Caitlin wrote: “Oh is Lucas a new little actor now? #emmerdale.”

Autumn added: “That isn’t the Lucas we know!! And Meena needs to be caught out soon, I really can’t cope with her getting involved in everyone’s situations any longer #Emmerdale.”

“Never mind who are you, who the hell is that Lucas #emmerdale?” Gavin posted, with Corriedalexo sharing: “Wait they’ve recast Lucas??? #emmerdale .”

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode airing on Thursdays at 8pm.
