Emmerdale Holly Barton ‘to return from the dead’ as fans predict Mackenzie twist
Emmerdale's Holly Barton could be set to return from the dead on the soap, as fans witnessed her name getting an emotional mention.
Played by Sophie Powles, Holly tragically died in 2017 after suffering a heroin overdose, having battled drug addiction for some time.
Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) brought her brother Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) to Holly's grave, opening up about her late daughter in upsetting scenes.
Recalling Holly's battle with drug addiction, she said: "We both watched her go from this beautiful bubbly ball of life to someone who did pretty bad things."
Showing his softer side, Mack then asked: "So why did she do it?"
Moira replied: "I'll never know for sure but I'm glad you wanted to visit her.
"She was a lot like you when she was little."
Meanwhile, watching from home, viewers couldn't get over the reference to the late Holly, wondering about the significance of the scene.
Often in soaps, when a former character's name is mentioned, they make a surprise return to the small screen.
One said: "Awwww Holly being mentioned. I really miss her."
"Holly was so beautiful. It's such a shame that she went down such a dark path," said a second.
And a third chimed: "Loved Holly."
Mackenzie initially lied to Moira, pretending he was trying to find Holly's grave when, in reality, he was hunting down Charity and their stash of illegal goods.
However, when Moira started telling Mackenzie about her late daughter, the Scotsman appeared to show his softer side.
Mack even seemed to tear up when Moira apologised for leaving their family behind, hoping for a fresh start.
With tears in her eyes, she said: "You being here feels like a second chance."
Is Mackenzie about to turn over a new leaf?
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm on ITV with an extra helping at 8pm on Thursdays.
