Al (played by Michael Wildman) has been on a secret crusade to bring The Woolpack pub to its knees in the hope he will turn the plot of land into luxury apartments. Unfortunately for him, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) are standing in his way but he will do anything to ensure he gets his way. However, it’s been teased he will spark a new rivalry with Chas’ brother Cain (Jeff Hordley) in the coming weeks on the ITV soap and with a fire at the Emmerdale pub also being reported, will the two combine in a murder storyline which will see the villain silenced once and for all?
No one in the village yet knows what Al is planning to do with the pub as he continues to manipulate the other shareholders of the establishment.
The businessman has been making subtle changes, such as changing the suppliers so the food is prepared, not fresh.
With Chas, Paddy and Marlon believing he is making these alterations to save money, they will be in for the shock of their lives when they discover what his real plan is.
This could cause Cain to enter the fold as he doesn’t like it when someone abuses his family and especially not when it comes to undermining his sister.
Ahead of Christmas and New Year, the bosses at ITV have hinted at what’s in store for viewers and the two men becoming sworn enemies is amongst the storylines.
According to the scriptwriters, Al interfering with The Woolpack will see him and Cain enter into a feud as the two most stubborn men in the village face off against one another.
It’s also been teased the mechanic will be pushed to the brink of snapping and this could prompt him to concoct a murderous plan against his nemesis.
Unfortunately, their rivalry could see the pub engulfed in a terrifying blaze as it’s been reported by Metro.co.uk a fire will rip through the establishment.
The publication is stating they have seen images of The Woolpack looking boarded up and burnt out, reminiscent of a building that has been on fire.
It could begin with Al wanting to get rid of the pub so he can finally begin development on his luxury apartments plan.
However, when Cain see him starting the fire, he could lock Al inside The Woolpack with no means of escape or no chance of survival.
Chas’ brother knows his sister’s livelihood and home would be destroyed in the process but at least she could claim on the insurance.
With Al out of the picture though, it would make her life 100 times easier as she wouldn’t have to run every decision past him.
But will Cain have done enough to ensure his enemy’s remains are never found or will an investigation be launched into Al’s death?
If the authorities do get involved, they could be looking to everyone in the village as a possible suspect of the murder.
This would be the second year in a row Al has been the centre of the soap’s Christmas and New Year storylines following the events of last December.
The ruthless businessman was revealed to be having an affair with Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb), Cain’s eldest child.
Unfortunately for Cain, he never got to get his revenge on the villain for breaking his daughter’s heart by sleeping with her and Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade).
He did vow to kill him if he ever returned to the village when he discovered the businessman was living out of a car.
Al eventually did make his comeback and Cain has yet to follow through with his death threat against his daughter’s lover.
Are fires big this season?
The villain managed to avoid any repercussions of his actions so could the fire be the perfect way for Cain to get his revenge for Debbie and his sister?
If Al were to die, this would bring an end to his two and a half year stint on the show after being introduced to viewers as the father of Ellis Chapman (Aaron Anthony).
He was also the former lover of Jessie Dingle (Sandra Marvin) who ended up leaving the village because she cheated on her husband Marlon with Al.
There are quite a few members of the Dingle family who want the ruthless businessman dead at this point.
So could one of them become the police’s prime suspect if they discover Al’s dead body in the remains of the burnt-out pub?
Taking to Twitter, viewers of the show are sure Al has something to do with the fire as Maria wrote: “Of course it will be since Al will find a way to build it back but into hotel apartments. It will be him.”
Rick added: “Are fires big this season? First the maize maze and now The Woolpack. Still, at least Chas can get new cushions after.”
VaniDee posted: “Hopefully this storyline will lead to Charity being the owner of the Woolpack again, back behind the bar and far away from Mack the rat.”
“Thanks, Emmerdale, I can’t wait,” Edition commented but will the blaze have consequences for more than one villager in the aftermath?
Emmerdale continues Tuesday at 7pm on ITV.
