Former 'Batwoman' Star Ruby Rose Alleges Awful Set Conditions: 'Dear CW… Shame on You'

Batwoman on The CW originally starred Ruby Rose as the vigilante of Gotham, Kate Kane. In the comic books, Kane is the one who dons the bat costume and fights corruption in the city. But after season 1 of Batwoman, Rose mysteriously left the show. The CW and the writers of the show came up with an original character, Ryan Wilder, played by Javicia Leslie, to take up the mantle of Batwoman. Kate Kane was also recast, and Wallis Day picked up where Rose left off.

Now, almost a year and a half since she departed ways with Batwoman, Ruby Rose is coming clean about her experiences on the set. And, let’s just say, her list of allegations runs long.

Ruby Rose left ‘Batwoman’ in season 1

After The CW announced that Ruby Rose had left Batwoman in May 2020, an undisclosed source released a statement that sounded like the parting was a mutual decision. According to Comic Book Resources, the source said, “It wasn’t 100-percent her decision. It was a breakup. She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No. So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned, if they parted ways. It just wasn’t a good fit.”

A few days later, Rose released a statement of her own. It read, “Thank you to the cast, crew, producers and studio. It wasn’t an easy decision but those who know, know… I didn’t want to not acknowledge everyone involved and how big this was for TV and for our community. I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all. I’m sure next season will be amazing also. Xxx *hangs up cowl and cape.”

But that wouldn’t be the last time we heard from Rose. She also claimed that her severe back injury was one of the reasons she left the show. And, now, Rose is not holding back anymore regarding her exit from Batwoman.

Rose calls out the terrible work conditions she experienced on set of ‘Batwoman’

On Oct. 19, Ruby Rose uploaded a series of posts on her Instagram story that detailed the work conditions on the set of Batwoman. She wrote, “Dear CW… Enough is enough. I’m going to tell the whole world what really happened on that set. I will come for you so what happened to me never happens to another person again. And so I can finally take back my life and the truth. Shame on you.”

Then, Rose went on to share videos from a doctor’s visit. She claimed that she has “enough documentation to make a 1 hour documentary… pray tell what else you would like me to share, the broken neck or the broken rib split in two and the tumor?”

Rose also detailed some of the awful set conditions she witnessed. She wrote, “A crew member got 3rd degree burns over his whole body, and we were given no therapy after witnessing his skin fall off his face but I was the only one who sent him flowers and cards and then were told we had to do a sex scene without a minute to process, we lost 2 stunt doubles, i got cut in the face so close to my eye in a stunt I could have been blind.”

Rose continued, “a woman was left quadriplegic and they tried to blame it on her being on her phone, so much so CW didn’t even help her to start with because they needed to ‘investigate’ so she had to do a go fund me… she’s a PA, they work via phones. Her accident occurred because our show refused to shut down when everyone else did because of Covid.” And all of this was only a fraction of Ruby Rose’s new statement regarding Batwoman.

Rose specified certain individuals in her statement

Ruby Rose called out many people at The CW and Batwoman. She wrote, “Peter Roth, you are first up. You are chapter one. not sure if you left after getting promoted to the highest position because you couldn’t stop making young women steam your pants, around your crotch while you were still wearing said pants or if you left after putting a private investigator on me who you fired as soon as the report didn’t fit your narrative. either way, when it comes to you, there’s already an army waiting for u.”

Later in her statement, Rose talked about Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries. She said, “@carolinedries has no heart and wanted us to finish the season throughout the pandemic and I told her it was a bad idea…” Rose continued, “i felt something bad would happen and [Dries] maybe visited the set 4 times in a year… UNHEARD OF..”

Rose also called Dougray Scott, who played Jacob Kane, “unprofessional.” She continued, “Dougray hurt a female stunt double, he yelled like a little b**** at women, and was a nightmare.” Scott later left the show after season 2.

Near the end of her statement, Ruby Rose said, “So, in closing, please to my dear, dear fans, stop asking if I will return to that awful show. I wouldn’t return for any amount of money nor if a gun were to my head… NOR DID I QUIT. I DO NOT QUIT, they ruined Kate Kane and they destroyed Batwoman, not me. I followed orders, and if I wanted to stay I was going to have to sign my rights away. Any threats, any bullying tactics or blackmail will not mke me stand down.”
