The cast of Friends were reunited for the first time onscreen in 17 years in The One Where They Get Back Together. The one-off special is now ready to watch on streaming services HBO Max and NOW which the famous six were paid to take part in. But how much do they earn every year from royalties?

How much do the Friends cast make from royalties?

From 1994, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry starred in Friends for 10 years.

They made a total of 236 episodes during this time which is frequently played around the world on various channels including Comedy Central where it is shown almost daily.

Last year, HBO Max required the rights for the comedy-drama which then led to the reunion episode being made.

Every time an episode of Friends is shown anywhere, the cast earn even more money.

An exact figure of how much they make in royalties hasn’t been confirmed in recent years.

However, back in 2015, USA Today reported that each of the six cast members make £14.2million ($20million) every year.

The report went on to state that this was two percent of the overall earnings with Warner Bros. making around £708million) $1billion each year thanks to Friends.

This is a long way from where the cast started back when season one began airing.

The stars were earning £16,000 ($22,000) per episode during the first series.

But by the end of the season, this amount jumped as the popularity of the show shot up.

When season 10 came around, the cast was on £709,000 ($1million) per episode.

The money continues to roll in today, not only because of the royalties but thanks to the reunion as well.

According to Variety, the six stars were paid a whopping £1.7million ($2.5million) for taking part in the reunion special.

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as the show is an international favourite, with presenter James Corden pointing out it is shown in more than 200 territories.

A detail which was highlighted when the reunion featured people from countries including Ghana, France, India and China.

He also revealed Friends had been watched more than one billion times since it first began 10 years ago.

The cast went around the old sets in the Warner Bros. Studio 24 where it was originally filmed.

They watched bloopers in Monica and Chandler’s apartment and shared memories of when they were on set.

Fans also got to enjoy them taking part in the famous quiz which lost Monica and Rachel their apartment.
