Great British Bake Off fans devastated as Lizzie leaves tent despite fantastic Showstopper

The Great British Bake Off fans were left devastated on Tuesday as Lizzie became the latest contestant to leave the tent.

Viewers were left shocked over the news, especially as Lizzie, who was left in tears over her exit, had wowed judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with a "fantastic" Showstopper during the show's free-from week.

Lizzie's gluten-free "extraordinary" cake was used to celebrate and represent her brain with the contestant revealing that she has SEN (Special Educational Needs), ADHD and dyslexia.

After wowing the judges with the bake, which had lime Swiss meringue, coconut cake and pineapple jam, Paul, 55, said: "I'd have that on my 40th any day, when it eventually comes round…"

While Prue, 81, joined in on the praise as she said it was "exquisite" and "just fantastic".

Viewers were left shocked when it was announced that Lizzie would be leaving the tent following the wonderful comments.

One person said: "Gutted to see Lizzie leave, that showstopper of hers.. a work of art!! #GBBO."

A different account put: "Gutted to see Lizzie go showstopper was superb #GBBO."

Another follower commented: "Noooooo! I really wish they had put all five through to the semi-finals. Will miss Lizzie and her wonderful attitude to life – what a showstopper her final bake was too. #GBBO #GBB2021."

While a different fan added: "Gonna miss Lizzie, absolutely gutted for her but after that showstopper, she can go out with her head held high #GBBO."

Lizzie was left emotional over the news but insisted that she was crying "happy tears", the contestant said: "I feel really proud of myself and really happy.

"I was so overwhelmed to even like get here, now I'm like a quarter finalist… now I sound dead Scouse because I'm crying.

"It's such an amazing experience, to meet the people that I've met and learn everything…"

Lizzie then insisted that they were "happy tears" and she was excited to get home to walk her pet dogs.

The Great British Bake Off continues on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
