House prices in North Wales rocket following news I’m A Celebrity is to be filmed there

HOUSE prices in North Wales have rocketed following news I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here is to be filmed there.

According to Homes Under the Hammer property expert Ian Wyn-Jones, local house prices have jumped by 15 per cent to 20 per cent.

This year, contestants will be heading to Gwrych Castle in Abergele, rather than the normal location in Australia amid Covid-19.

Ian, 42, who has the local licence for online estate agency, easyProperty, backed by billionaire easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, is also presenter for the BBC and Welsh TV programme AR Werth on S4C.

He told The Sun: “Abergele was always a quiet, sleepy village and the property market was a little bit hit and miss, but following news that I’m A Celeb is using Gwrych Castle local property prices jumped by 15 per cent to 20 per cent on average.

"I had a high-tech house on the market for £425,000, but it soon sold for £495,000.”

The TV property expert said visitors to North Wales would often bypass Abergele, but the news I’m a Celeb is going to be broadcast from there has changed things.

Previous winners Joe Swash and Stacey Solomon first met each other on the series and have recently been seen in Abergele.

“I saw Joe and Stacey out walking in Abergele while looking at property,” Ian said.

“I’ve been told up to 300 cast and crew will be living in the area, possibly in the local high-end caravan park, and they will be spending money as they use the local shops and eateries.

“Seeing all those celebrity faces in Abergele is really going to see local tourism surge, which is great news for the area.”
