I was nearly raped in my local park by a freckly boy in a school uniform, reveals Love Island's Zara McDermott

LOVE Island star Zara McDermott has revealed she was nearly raped in her local park by a boy in school uniform.

The reality TV personality says a freckle-faced teen pinned her against a fence and sexually assaulted her in the daylight attack.

Speaking in her new BBC documentary Zara McDermott: Uncovering Rape Culture, she admitted the shock was intensified by the fact her attacker was a schoolboy.

Zara, 24, said: “The guy followed me from the High Street. It felt like he was from school because I felt like I could see uniform. He had a really freckly face, a really boyish face.

“He was getting closer and closer and that’s when I started to feel a little bit scared. I could hear him shouting things at me.”

She said he then pounced and the traumatic experience was only stopped when passers-by came to her rescue — but the boy continued to threaten Zara as he fled.

The attack happened four years ago, just before she went on ITV2 reality show Love Island, which led to her joining the cast of E4’s Made in Chelsea.

Zara added: “I was just so shocked at how forceful he was considering he was like he couldn’t even have been 15.”

She reported it to police but her attacker was never tracked down and she says she has never been able to forget her ordeal.

But it inspired her to look into sex crimes among youngsters for the documentary, which is on BBC One a week on Wednesday.
